Atla announces itself on Lafayette; coffee shop coming next door

Over at 372 Lafayette St., the first sign of what's to come in the retail space has arrived in the windows here at Great Jones.

As Tasting Table first reported in April, chef Enrique Olvera is opening a casual Mexican restaurant in the corner spot. Olvera, who Eater calls "one of the world's great chefs," also operates the well-regarded Cosme on East 21st Street and Pujol in Mexico City.

Atla is expected to be open by the end of the year.

And while we're over in this direction... signage arrived several weeks ago in the space next door... for Honeybrains, which will be a coffee shop/cafe...

Continuing south... a Yogasmoga clothing store is opening in the new Selldorf-designed condos at 10 Bond St. ... and the Italian fashion brand Boglioli is ready to go with its first U.S. outpost...

Before the two new luxury residential buildings arrived here between Bond and Great Jones, the property held ZP Auto Repair Shop, a parking garage and Harrison Ford's head...

Boglioli brings its Italian tailoring to 10 Bond Street

And over at 10 Bond Street (Curbed recently asked if this was the prettiest new building in New York), the coming-soon signage is up for the first commercial tenant... a retail outlet for Boglioli, which is known for the light hand it applies to traditional Italian tailoring (I cut-and-paste that)...

This looks to be the fashion brand's first dedicated U.S. outpost... joining Milan, Seoul and Tokyo.

Anyway, what were you expecting to open here at the corner of Lafayette, where the $12.5 million penthouse sold in less than two weeks, a Dollar-Plus store? (Though that idea isn't too farfetched.)

Updated

Via Racked, we learned that the first U.S. outlet of activewear line Yogasmoga is also opening here at 10 Bond.

New residential buildings come into full view on Lafayette Street

A whole year has passed since we looked in at the dual residential buildings rising on Lafayette between Bond and Great Jones…

For starters, all the construction netting has been removed from 372 Lafayette at the southwest corner of Great Jones. This Morris Adjmi-designed building was expected to be rentals. The DOB Schedule A shows eight apartments in the building … with retail on the ground floor.

There has been much more written about 10 Bond Street, dubbed "a boutique collection of 11 superlative residences" designed by Selldorf Architects.

Workers removed the sidewalk bridge here yesterday…

According to Streeteasy, several units are in contract (one for $7.7 million; another for $6.7 million. Curbed has photos of the model unit here.)

Oh, and if buying now is not your thing, then you can opt for a two-bedroom rental for $14,500.

Back to 372 Lafayette for a moment. The corner was previously home to ZP Auto Repair Shop, who was able to secure a new space in 2011 in Brooklyn. Jeremiah Moss noted yesterday at Vanishing New York that, despite brisk business, the shop has lost its lease and is closing on Oct. 30.

10 Bond continues to make other developments look bad

Walking along Lafayette we couldn't help but notice the progress on the 11 luxury residences at 10 Bond Street...

Now a little further along than its luxury neighbor at 372 Lafayette St.

Both buildings made their first appearance above ground in late April. (Compare this to, say, 185-193 Avenue B, which has inched skyward the past 20 months. Or 37 St. Mark's Place, which has taken workers nearly a year to convert a cafe into a vegan ice cream shop.)

Full disclosure: The above photos are from several days ago. By now 10 Bond may have been completed.

Today in posts about terra cotta steel panels on Lafayette Street

The two incoming luxury buildings on the west side of Lafayette between Great Jones and Bond continue to show up the rest of the developments around here with their speedy construction pace …

In particular, the 7-floor 10 Bond Street is getting all glassy…

… and workers have attached the first of the building's wavy terra cotta steel panels on the facade …

Terra cotta panels aren't the only interesting feature for these condo homes. As Curbed noted, the building's windows will have exterior, automated sun shields. No word on what becomes of the unwanted glare.

These 2 luxury residential buildings are rising very quickly on Lafayette Street

We're used to rather pokey developments around here (185-193 Avenue B, 98-100 Avenue A, etc.). But over on the west side of Lafayette between Great Jones and Bond, the two new projects are racing skyward at a record pace.

There's the 6-floor rental at 372 Lafayette St. and Great Jones ... and the 7-floor 10 Bond Street, which is already getting glassy. (And Curbed reported last month that four of the building's 11 $$$ homes are already in contract.)

These photos are from Sunday. By now residents are probably moving in.

Looking at the future luxurious corners of Lafayette Street

[February 2009]

The west side of Lafayette between Great Jones and Bond will soon be home to two luxury residential buildings… The former tenants of these corners, the ZP Auto Repair Shop and a parking lot, are long gone.

First, allow us a moment of silence for the wall above this space that brought us Harrison Ford's giant head

… and Claire Forlani's disembodied scotch ad hands

[Head bowed]

Anyway!

The new buildings are apparently going up simultaneously … already up to the second level in spots… (these photos are from Saturday)…

There is 372 Lafayette St. …

… and 10 Bond St.

The first units in No. 10 hit the market earlier in the month … Curbed pointed out a 2,775-square-foot home for $6.9 million … and for the more budget-minded, an 1,866-square-foot residence for $5.3 million.

Demolition starts on former garage and lot; new developments coming for Lafayette Street

Goggla passed along these photos yesterday, noting that the demolition had started on the former ZP Auto Repair Shop on the southwest corner of Lafayette and Great Jones. The shop moved out to Brooklyn in the spring of 2011. This prime real estate (car-care center? hahaha!) had been on the market for years. Workers started prepping the space for demolition back in the fall.

By the end of the afternoon, the garage was mostly gone...

The demolition extends to the parking lot and billboard on the northwest corner of Lafayette and Bond...

There are big plans in place for each corner.

At 10 Bond Street, developers have aspirations for a 7-story, 11-unit condo building. (Find more details and renderings at Curbed.)

[Via Curbed]

One note: Earlier reports list Annabelle Selldorf as the architect of record for 10 Bond Street. However, the plans waiting approval at the DOB list the notorious Gene Kaufman as the architect.

Meanwhile, there are other big plans for the opposite corner at 372 Lafayette. The city just approved architect Morris Adjmi's plan for a new 6-story apartment building...

The last rendering we saw looked like...

The above image came via Off the Grid, who has more details on this project here.

Now where do people get their cars repaired?
