Bento Burger has closed

Bento Burger opened here on East Second Street near First Avenue back in April 2011 ... the Asian-style roadhouse specializing in hamburgers was part of the Lucky Cheng's complex...

...and it's now closed...

... previously, the space was home to the BBQ joint Marfa... and, before that, the tiki-themed Waikiki Wally's ... (whose banner is still visible atop the building...) ... and La Nouvelle Justine ...

Meanwhile, as you probably know, Lucky Cheng's is moving to West 52th Street, as Grub Street first reported, in the coming weeks (six weeks was the word Michael Musto heard at the Voice the other day...)

Bento Box 'informally' opening tonight; and look at those pipes!

Bento Burger, the Japanese-flavored burger joint that took over the Marfa space on East Second Street, "will be very informally open" starting tonight... leading up the the grand opening on Tuesday. You can read more about the place with its "Blade Runner" look here.

Meanwhile, Dave on 7th took these shots on the exterior yesterday...

A quick look at the coming-soon Bento Burger (no Rutger Hauer!)

Last month, we reported that Bento Burger was taking over the Marfa space on East Second Street... We thought we'd take a peek at the work in progress... there is progress...

Owner Hayne Suthon told me that they'd be a "Blade Runner"-inspired design by Miguel Calvo.

Grub Street got its hands on the renderings a few weeks back...

No word yet on the decor of the restrooms...We'd like to suggest this look.
