The former Cheers Cut space is for rent on St. Mark's Place

As noted last week, Cheers Cut, the Taiwanese mini-chain of fried foods at 36 St. Mark's Place, had not been open in recent days during its announced business hours.

By Wednesday, the nine-month-old Grand Opening banner had been removed...

... and on Saturday morning, the for rent sign arrived on the now-empty storefronts between Second Avenue and Third Avenue...

The retail listing isn't online just yet ... a variety of quick-serve concepts have tried the address without much success, including Friterie Belgian Fries ... Fasta ("Pasta Your Way") ... and the $1.50 branch of 2 Bros. Pizza.

Cheers Cut has not been open lately on St. Mark's Place

Cheers Cut, the "Taiwanese-inspired" fast-food mini-chain at 36 St. Mark's Place, has not been open lately during announced business hours. ... and the phone to the quick-serve restaurant is no longer in service.

Cheers Cut just opened last fall here between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. They quickly made a name for themselves selling large fried slabs of chicken and squid. The place did have a temporary feel to it, with a entrance still marked by the previous business — Village Gifts ... as well as a "Grand Opening" banner nine months after actually opening.

In any event, this may just be an unannounced temporary closure. (The Cheers Cut Facebook account is still on robo mood and posting to tempt people to stop by.)

Still, the address has been a bit of a doomed location on this block. There was Friterie Belgian Fries, which closed in January 2017 after nearly 18 months in operation.

The previous tenant, Fasta ("Pasta Your Way"), lasted less than six weeks in business. Before that, it was the $1.50 branch of 2 Bros. Pizza, which closed in February 2015.

Cheers Cut makes it (more) official on St. Mark's Place

The Cheers Cut signage (temporary?) went up this past Thursday at 36 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

As previously reported, Cheers Cut serves Taiwanese-inspired fast food, including fried chicken and seafood dishes and a variety of bento boxes and noodles.

This will be the fifth location for the chainlet. A worker said that they could be open as soon as this week.

Cheers Cut is now open.

A Cheers Cut sneak peek on St. Mark's Place

As we reported on Aug. 10, Cheers Cut, the Taiwanese fast-food restaurant that specializes in fried chicken, is opening an outpost at 36 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

EVG Cheers Cut contributor Steven got a look inside the opening-soon space on Friday...

Updated: Cheers Cut bringing Taiwanese fast food to St. Mark's Place

Renovations have been ongoing behind the brown-papered front windows at 36 St. Mark's Place.

A worker there recently told EVG correspondent Steven that the new business will be selling fried chicken... and a sign noting "fried chicken and seafood" recently arrived on the front door...

Something deep fried makes sense given that the previous tenant here between Second Avenue and Third Avenue was Friterie Belgian Fries, which closed back in January after nearly 18 months in operation.

The previous tenant, Fasta ("Pasta Your Way"), lasted less than six weeks in business. Before that, it was the $1.50 branch of 2 Bros. Pizza, which closed in February 2015.

Eater named it as a top spot for fried chicken in NYC:

The monster fillet at this new Elmhurst Taiwanese fast food chain that specializes in chicken and squid has been heavily crumbed and fried to perfection, and is delivered in its entirety — so bring a pocket knife. Crowds line up to get these fillets, and four sweet dipping sauces are offered. The cartoon superhero motif is an added plus.
