A reader recently noted the sign outside the new deli on Avenue B and Fourth Street. However appealing...
Might be less work and a better deal to opt for the sandwich... a reader notes another sign at the location ...

East Village Finest Deli is now open
Here on Avenue B and Fourth Street at the former home of Finest Pizza and Deli ... looks pretty good to me, and better then the pizza before it...

"Finest Deli' for Avenue B
Finest Pizza and Deli on Avenue B and Fourth Street officially closed back in June....
...and now we know what's coming in the space...
Another late-night option for the underground party crowd at Le Souk!

New pizza and deli for former Finest Pizza and Deli
The other day I noted that Finest Pizza and Deli on Avenue B and Fourth Street had closed ... even writing a tearful farewell to their formerly one-armed (generic) pizza mascot.
However! As several readers noted... the place sure looked open this week. WTF, Grieve?
Yes! So here's the story from our trusted source and reader... and I'm paraphrasing....
New owner, new manager. Still no beer. But cigarettes. New focus on sandwiches and food. There will be pizza along with some other food services ... and perhaps fresh juices. New signage and menus to come. And likely a job here for Abdul.
So the deli remains open during the owner switcheroo.
No word on a new (generic) pizza mascot.

Remembering Finest Pizza's wounded pizza mascot
Every so often I do that feature titled Posts That I Never Got Around to Posting (such as this one!)... usually an item that I found of interest, but never pursued. Or forgot about. I found the following in my drafts folder... this one becomes timely given the closure this week of the Finest Pizza and Deli on Avenue B...
You recall their (generic) pizza mascot...
As a reader passed along in the spring, a vandal ripped of his right arm....
...and discarded it a short distance away...
But! Abdul and company were able to reattach it...
I wonder what will happen to our wounded pizza man now that the store is closed?

Finest Pizza and Deli on Avenue B has closed
Finest Pizza and Deli on Avenue B and Fourth Street is now officially closed.
Despite cutting back their hours in recent months, business was apparently OK. According to a source, the owner abruptly closed up the shop on Sunday...a source says the store may reopen as another (no beer) deli. Meanwhile, the source says Abdul, who many people liked in the neighborhood, is out of a job (no warning, no severance) and is looking for something in sanitation.
