On the avenues

Crane work is expected today on Second Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street... EVG reader Daniel notes that the posted signs warn against parking on Second Avenue between "5th Ave and 6th Ave." You've been warned.

Things that go clunk-clunk, CLUNK! in the night (and day) on East Sixth Street

Here are some signs on apartment buildings along Sixth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

The signs provide a detailed report of the situation ...

... a "noisy manhole cover."

"[A]s the weather has changed, the gasket seal that's supposed to prevent movement of the manhole cover has disintegrated, and now the noise problem has grown completely deafening. If you live in an apartment facing the street, and live at or near 335 East 6th Street, you are likely being driven crazy by the sound of the rattling manhole cover."

And here's what you can do about it...

A reader recently noted the sign outside the new deli on Avenue B and Fourth Street. However appealing...

Might be less work and a better deal to opt for the sandwich... a reader notes another sign at the location ...

C'mon you guys — really, keep this door closed! No, seriously...

Despite some apparent thievery at the Theatre for the New City through the East 10th Street doorway, people just wanna keep the door open anyway...

Dunkin' Donuts week in review

From the Post today: "Since the city began compelling restaurant chains to post calorie information, coffee drinkers have proved likelier to get their java from a Starbucks than from the Dunkin' Donuts down the street. A Stanford University study found drink revenues up 5 percent at Starbucks stores within 100 yards of Dunkin' Donuts since health officials made it mandatory that menus include nutritional data."

Not so hot

Last week I noted a sign that I was likely misreading at Klimat on Seventh Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...Hot beer?

Perhaps that I wasn't the only person confused: The sign has been changed

Someone already REALLY misses the Second Avenue Dunkin' Donuts

Our friend Melanie, who always finds great shots in the neighborhood, took this photo in front of the now-shuttered Dunkin' Donuts on Second Avenue....

Boca Chica's motor failure nearly gives reader heart failure

In a rather frantic e-mail, a reader said that she passed Boca Chica on First Avenue and First Street last evening during dinner hour on the M15 and noticed that the gates were down and yellow signs were out front....she feared the worst...

However, upon closer inspection, it appears the closure on this EV mainstay the last 15 years or so was for one night only....

P.S.
Meanwhile, Permanent Brunch & Burgers, Bath and Beyond will reopen tomorrow...

And now, signs that I'm probably reading into...

Let's start the New Year off with something stupid. Or stupider.

Couldn't they pick another fruit to name a tour company?

Hmm -- hot beer...

This weed sucked...and I don't have a receipt...

A trend to watch? People abandoning their noses...

Get what?

What happens when Baskin-Robbins uses the same ad agency as Toys in Babeland.

Pretty brazen to advertise this...

A kind-of stoned white model? Shouldn't be a problem...

Coned employees?

Screw parking!

There's a Mel Brooks joke here...

These buns are annoyed?

Watching tourists cross the street is an agonizingly slow process...

The men working above are dangerous?

No style...

NYPD illegally hangs posters to promote upcoming holiday event

There are dozens of posters around the East Village to promote the 9th Precinct's Annual Children's Christmas Party...such as this one on 14th Street near Avenue B...

...and this one on Avenue B and Fifth Street...

Perhaps those responsible for hanging the signs may want to consult Section 10-119 of the New York City Administrative Code, which reads that it "shall be unlawful for any person to paste, post, paint, print, nail or attach or affix by any means whatsoever any handbill, poster, notice, sign, advertisement, sticker or other printed material" upon any public utility or light pole or traffic sign pole.

Several years ago, I was helping a friend hang a handful of innocuous flyers for an apartment moving sale. The police stopped me on Avenue A and 11th Street. They said that they could write me a summons. I looked at the light pole where I just taped up a sign. Nearly every pole along A was full of flyers. I mentioned this. Their response? "You got caught." Then! When I failed to produce an ID, there was talk of taking me "downtown" and what not. They finally let me go with a warning.

New karaoke empire on St. Mark's is just so ...

busy looking...Is there some sort of limit on the number of different types of signs on one business?

And, according to Eater, it appears U2/2U is illegally serving booze...
