Green Garden Buffet closes on 9th Street

Green Garden Buffet has closed here at 332 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue (thanks to Steven for the photos) ...
A note on the door from owner Tamika Gabaroum cites a "decrease in business" for the closure...
Gabaroum opened the buffet-style spot in July 2020... serving what she billed as healthy French food. (An EVG reader described it as Chadian, as Gabaroum is originally from Chad.)

Gabaroum is a former public health advocate with the Peace Corps who served in UN Peacekeeping Missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was an early recipient of a loan in the summer of 2019 as part of the East Village Revitalization Loan Fund for small business owners. (You can read more about the partnership with City Councilmember Carlina Rivera and community advocates here and here.)

Unfortunately, opening a buffet-style restaurant without seating during a pandemic proved to be too much.

Gabaroum had said opening a restaurant in NYC was a dream of hers. She will continue with catering work.

Openings: Green Garden Buffet

Reposting this info that originally appeared on EVG on July 3.

Green Garden Buffet opened on June 29 at 332 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

For the time being, owner Tamika Gabaroum or one of her assistants will serve you at the door from a buffet setup that's billed as healthy French food. (Another reader described it as Chadian, as Gabaroum is originally from Chad.)

This system is still a work in progress. You need to indicate just how much you want of the daily menu items. On my last visit, I had the okra, sautéed zucchini, sautéed spinach with garlic and baked sweet potatoes. (They also usually have a meat or fish of the day too.)

Green Garden Buffet is open daily from 1 to 10 p.m. The food is all served to go.

Green Garden Buffet debuts on 9th Street

Green Garden Buffet opened this week at 332 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... EVG regular Lola Saénz shares these photos of owner Tamika Gabaroum (left) and her assistant (and best friend) Caroline ...

The buffet-style spot serves what's billed as healthy French food. (Another reader described it as Chadian, as Gabaroum is originally from Chad.) Here's a look at the menu ... a selection of these items are available for takeout via a buffet setup that is $7.99 a pound ...

Green Garden Buffet coming to 9th Street

Awning signage is up now for Green Garden Buffet on 332 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... not sure what this is (other than some kind of buffet!) at the moment.

This space was previously home for 22 years to Gallery Vercon, who wasn't offered a lease in 2016 after Raphael Toledano bought the building. (The property is now owned by Renaissance Realty Group in Brooklyn.)
