Guaco Taco has closed on 2nd Street

The for rent sign is now up at 91 E. Second St. between Avenue A and First Avenue... marking the end of Guaco Taco's seven months in business.

The quick-serve Mexican restaurant had irregular hours of late... something that marked its short run here. Guaco Taco was closed for nearly two weeks shortly after its grand opening on May 20...

[Updated] Guaco Taco has not been open lately

Guaco Taco opened on Second Street, just east of First Avenue, on May 20.

However, the quick-serve restaurant hasn't been open of late... going back to the last two weekends. The owners haven't left any notes to potential customers about a temporary closure due to some unforeseen circumstance. (Perhaps they needed some additional permits?)

IF Guaco Taco is closed for good … then it will have the dubious honor of being one of the quickest openings-and-closings in recent memory. In 2011, an Italian restaurant called Tre Scalini closed after less than two weeks at 130 St. Mark's Place.

Guaco Taco now open on East 2nd Street

A quick post to note that Guaco Taco just opened on Second Street, just east of First Avenue. We didn't have time to stop to check out the place... but at first glance, it looks inviting... for now they're advertising a breakfast burrito with potatoes for $3.50, from open to close...

We'll stop by again later to try some food... there's some staunch quick-serve competition not too far away with the Tacos Morelos Cart on Avenue A and Second Street ... and Downtown Bakery on First Avenue between Fourth Street and First Street... and El Diablito Taqueria on East Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

Tacos in the works for East 2nd Street

A sign for Guaco Taco — in two varieties of green — arrived the other day outside 91 E. Second St. between First Avenue and Avenue A. Don't know a thing about the place at the moment. We'll check back in on the place with some details...

On the topic of tacos on East Second Street between First Avenue and Avenue A, the Taco Morelos cart has been back in action in its usual location ...

The cart had been replaced by a Taco Morelos truck during some recent cold weather... and then neither were there for several days, prompting a few concerned questions from readers...
