Spellbound! It's the return of Hitchcocktober

Somehow, it's Oct. 3 already... and we're late to note the return of Hitchcocktober to Village East by Angelika on Second Avenue at 12th Street. 

And here's this year's slate of Alfred Hitchcock films ... starting tomorrow (Wednesday!) night:
  • Oct. 4 — "Rear Window"
  • Oct. 11 — "To Catch a Thief"
  • Oct. 18 — "Vertigo"
  • Oct. 25 — "Shadow of a Doubt"
  • Oct. 31 — "Psycho"
Find ticket info here. And be warned: Advance tickets sell quickly, especially the screenings in the large auditorium — the Jaffe Art Theatre. (The Halloween night screenings of "Psycho" are nearly sold out.)

Wednesday's parting shot

The Wednesday evening Hitchcocktober screenings wrapped up tonight at Village East by Angelika with the spy thriller "Saboteur." 

Coming Halloween night: "Psycho." The 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. showings are either sold out or close to it... so the theater added screenings at 6 and 7 p.m. (There's also one at 4:30 p.m.) You can find ticket info here

Happy Hitchcocktober!

If it's October (it is!), then it's also time for the return of Hitchcocktober to Village East by Angelika on Second Avenue at 12th Street.

Must be the season: Hitchcocktober returns to 2nd Avenue and 12th Street

After a year off, Hitchcocktober is back for October at the Village East by Angelika on Second Avenue at 12th Street. 

And the Village East is screening some of Hitchcock's most famous films on Wednesday evenings at 7 ... with a Halloween night showing of "Psycho" in the big auditorium — the Jaffe Art Theater. 

The lineup:

Hitchcocktober movie of the week — 'North by Northwest'

The Hitchcocktober movie of the week is... "North by Northwest" tonight (Thursday!) at 7:30 and 10:30 at City Cinemas Village East on Second Avenue at 12th Street.

You probably know the plot:

This classic suspense film finds New York City ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) after Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross-country journey, meeting the beautiful and mysterious Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) along the way. Soon Vandamm's henchmen close in on Thornhill, resulting in a number of iconic action sequences.

Hitchcocktober's grand finale: 'Psycho' on Halloween night



It's nearly time to say goodbye for another year to Hitchcocktober at the City Cinemas Village East, Second Avenue and 12th Street ... but not before Halloween-evening screenings of "Psycho." (The one with Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh from 1960, not the Gus Van Sant version from 1998 with Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche.)

The Hitchcocktober movie of the week is... "Strangers on a Train" tomorrow (Thursday!) night at 8... at City Cinemas Village East on Second Avenue at 12th Street.

The plot, per Google:

In Alfred Hitchcock's adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's thriller, tennis star Guy Haines (Farley Granger) is enraged by his trampy [Ed. Note: Oh Google!] wife's refusal to finalize their divorce so he can wed senator's daughter Anne (Ruth Roman). He strikes up a conversation with a stranger, Bruno Anthony (Robert Walker), and unwittingly sets in motion a deadly chain of events.

Hitchcocktober movie of the week — 'Shadow of a Doubt'



The Hitchcocktober movie of the week is... "Shadow of a Doubt" tonight at 8... at City Cinemas Village East on Second Avenue at 12th Street.

From 1943, Joseph Cotton stars as Uncle Charlie, a calculating and charming killer who hides out in his relatives' small hometown. There, he befriends his favorite niece and namesake, Young Charlie (Teresa Wright). But she begins to suspect he may be the famed Merry Widow murderer!



Is good ol' creepy Uncle Charlie really the famed Merry Widow murderer??!?!?!??!?! Is Young Charlie really old enough to be in a bar?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

Hitchcocktober movie of the week — 'Rebecca'



Like October, Hitchcocktober always seems to go by so quickly.

And so, tonight (at 8!) marks the second-to-last Hitchcocktober movie of the month at the Village East Cinema on Second Avenue and 12th Street.

"Rebecca" is tonight's selection. This 1940 psychological drama starring Joan Fontaine and Laurence Olivier received 11 Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Picture and Cinematography.

[In dramatic tone] This is "Rebecca" ...



And on Halloween night (Tuesday!), there's a screening of "Psycho."

Coming soon to the Village East — 'Point Blank,' Joan Crawford and a troglodyte, and Black Sabbath



A few things to note at City Cinemas Village East, Second Avenue at 12th Street... on Wednesday evening, there's a 50th-anniversary screening of the Lee Marvin crime thriller "Point Blank." (Details here.) Then on Thursday night, the Hedda Lettuce special screening is of "Trog," Joan Crawford's last feature film. (Details here.) It is a very special film...
