TV-free neighborhood bars include:

• Burp Castle, 41 E. Seventh St. between Second Avenue and Cooper Square
• The International Bar, 120 1/2 First Avenue near East Seventh Street
• Scratcher, 209 E. Fifth St. between Second Avenue and Cooper Square
• Swift Hibernian Lounge, 34 E. Fourth St. between the Bowery and Lafayette
• The Wayland, Avenue C at East Ninth Street

This is certainly not a comprehensive list. Feel free to name other TV-free neighborhood bars in the comments... (and Hookah bars don't count...)

And as the sign at The International shows, there is an anti-Super Bowl party there all-day Sunday.

Reader mailbag: Any suggestions for a low-key place to watch the Super Bowl?

Another straightforward question. So maybe your apartment? Haha. Kidding! Well, the Big Game is coming up Sunday as you may have heard. (Make the hype stop! Please!)

So! Anyone with a suggestion for someplace low-key in the East Village to watch the game? (Please no blatant shilling or answers like "football sucks. Read a book.") As for us, we'll be watching it at the International!

Are you going to rent out your East Village apartment for the Super Bowl?

As we first and exclusively reported, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is hosting Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2. Which means thousands and thousands of football fans from Denver (go Nuggets!) and Seattle (go Mariners!) will be descending upon NYC for food, lodging, alcohol poisoning, etc.

Thankfully, given the generous nature of NYC residents, there are plenty of people offering up their apartments on AirBnB and Craigslist for a pretty nice markup. For example! There's a nice apartment on Second Avenue going for $1,000 a night — with a living/dining space that can "accommodate up to 50 people." Meanwhile, over in StuyTown, there's a two-bedroom unit asking $6,500 for six nights. Or if you really want to do it up, you can rent this one-bedroom apartment on Second Avenue and East First Street for the entire month – $4,600.

Sure, renting out your place like this (for less than 30 days) violates New York State law, but you can make up for any possible fines by placing some side bets on the game.

The Nuyorican Poets Cafe has a 2-story screen to watch the Super Bowl

As you may have heard, the Super Bowl is Sunday ... anyway, passing this along... part of an events email from the folks at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, 236 E. Third St. between Avenue B and Avenue C.

The calm before the Super Bowl

Suddenly, everyone is a New York Giants fan!

As you may have heard, the New York Giants are playing the New England Patriots tonight at 6:30. The winner will be crowned this year's Wimbledon champion.

And as you might expect, there are plenty of bandwagon jumpers... Like, do you recall seeing signs that this Duane Reade on 14th Street near First Avenue was the official pharmacy of the Giants during the regular season?

And where were these savings at Trader Joe's earlier?

Anyway, we looked around at various specials for tonight... didn't find anything that stupid. Did you?
