Ding-A-Ling coming soon to Avenue C

And from the coming soon department, which we've been meaning to note this spring ... signage has been up dating to mid-March here at 116 Avenue C between Seventh Street and Eighth Street for a new venture called Ding-A-Ling...

A job posting for the space describes it this way: "Ding-A-Ling Cocktail Lounge will be a casual, music-driven neighborhood bar serving simple tasty cocktails and vegan junk food."

The owners are also behind Kind Regards NYC (rip Cake Shop), via brothers Nick and Andy Bodor.

The Third Man closed here earlier this year after seven-plus years of cocktail service.

Thanks to EVG readers Annabelle, Dave on 7th and Vinny & O for sharing tips/photos about this space.

The Third Man has closed on Avenue C

Paper now covers the front door and windows at the Third Man, the cocktail bar at 116 Avenue C that shut down at the beginning of the month.

There isn't any official notice of a closing on the Third Man's website or social media properties. Google and Yelp list the space between Seventh Street and Eighth Street as permanently closed. (Several Instagram users noted the bar's last day was Feb. 1.)

This closure doesn't come as a surprise. Owners Eduard "Edi" Frauneder and Wolfgang "the Wolf" Ban also operated Edi & the Wolf on the next block. That Austrian restaurant closed last April due to "increasing operating costs."

The Third Man, with an early-20th-century-Vienna–theme (and a nod to the classic film), opened in December 2012.

Reader report: The Third Man opens this week on Avenue C

Over on Avenue C between Seventh Street and Eight Street, The Third Man is ready to open. A reader saw a sign on the door this past weekend saying something like, "closed for a private event: come back next week."

The cocktail lounge is by the Edi & the Wolf owners down the block. The lounge will be called "The Third Man," named after the 1949 film-noir classic starring Orson Welles and Joseph Cotton.

There was the requisite preview post on Thrillist from Dec. 3. Per that post:

The bar serves Austrian/German beers and wines, but it's all about those chef-driven cocktails — purportedly, they're more accessible to the palate of someone who's not deep into the cocktail world, and are instead adjusted to the palate of someone who... eats food.
And!

Upscale bar bites will come over from the Edi kitchen, and include Long Island fluke (which most people consider "being from Long Island and not on steroids in the last five years") w/ watermelon radish, and house-cured speck.

A woody start for The Third Man on Avenue C

The plywood came down around the former Lava Gina space the other day on Avenue C between East Seventh Street and East Eighth Street... Dave on 7th passed along this photo from yesterday...

Coming soon: A new cocktail lounge from the Edi & the Wolf people down the next block... The lounge will be called The Third Man, named after the 1949 film-noir classic starring Orson Welles and Joseph Cotton.

Per Eater: "The Third Man's food program will focus on Austrian-style small plates ... it'll be a fairly small, 15 seat affair. The décor is inspired by Vienna's Loos Bar, complete with 'floating' steel bar hanging from the ceiling."
