[Updated] Nail salon coming to the former Twist space on Avenue A

The signage is up at 70 Avenue A for Appolodine, a nail salon in the works for the empty storefront between Fourth Street and Fifth Street.

The website listed on the signage isn't active just yet, so there's no word on the various services that Appolodine will offer. A reader found the website.

The space was previously home to Twist, a froyo-gelato shop with irregular hours.

H/T to EVG reader JG for the photos and intel!

Twist might actually really be closed on Avenue A

Twist, the FroYo-gelato spot at 70 Avenue A near East Fifth Street, had been keeping pretty random hours.

The moment you think Twist was closed for good… it reopened for business. We heard in recent weeks that the place was really dead, but like Jason Vorhees, it seemed a sure bet to come back to life for a sequel.

Last night, EVG reader Alexis Weiss saw the empty storefront. Workers were cleaning out the space, loading equipment into a van parked the wrong way on East Fifth Street.

Twist opened in September 2013.

Twist-ing the night away, though it's no longer self-serve

Several readers pointed out that Twist was open for business this past weekend on Avenue A… Some folks put the place up for dead, as the fro-yo shop between East Fifth Street and East Fourth Street had not been open much during the past 3-4 months…

But! It is open… with a new look … and the the place is no longer self-serve. Someone will serve it for you. (Gelato is also on the menu.)

Twist opened last September.

Meanwhile, unlike Twist, Twister on Second Avenue is officially closed.

A quick look at Twist, now open on Avenue A

Bill the libertarian anarchist stopped by Twist, the new yogurt shop at 70 Avenue A between East Fifth Street and East Fourth Street...

"I just sampled an organic chocolate yogurt at Twist. Excellent indeed. Jim is the proprietor. He hopes to show art made by local artists. He has a bit of work to do on the walls, but expects to have it done soon."
