Report: Man arrested after 3 failed bank robberies

The NYPD has arrested a man for attempting (unsuccessfully) to rob three local banks, two on the Lower East Side and one on Broadway near Astor Place.

"This was a very bad bank robber," a police source told The Post, who reported that cops arrested Richard Callison, 22, of Oradell, N.J., near 14th Street and Third Avenue.

During his attempted robbery Tuesday at the Bank of America on Delancey Street:

[He] also failed to make off with any dough, despite passing the teller a note that said: “Give me all the big bills, make the wrong move and you will get shot.”

The missive ended with the words: “Rapido, rapido.”

The teller was not intimidated by the note, and simply locked her drawer and walked away from the window, leaving the crook standing there empty handed, police sources said.

Neither here nor there but the suspect does have a passing resemblance to Spaulding Smails from "Caddyshack."

Cops nab so-called albino bank robber

Cops have arrested the man wanted for a string of bank robberies in the city, including a holdup at the Chase branch on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place on Oct. 4.

Let's send it over to Lisha Arino at DNAinfo:

Dennis Nemirovskiy, 27, of Brooklyn, robbed banks in the East Village, Greenwich Village and Midtown by approaching tellers with a note demanding money, police said. In total, he made off with $8,480, police said.

Police finally caught Nemirovskiy after a witness saw him get into a cab after his last heist on Oct. 17, according to the NYPD.

I'm new to bank robberies, though I have seen "Point Break." Is leaving a bank robbery in a cab such a good idea?

Anyway, after the Chase robbery, the NYPD released the following description of the suspect: "white male (possibly albino), 5'10", mid to late 20s..."

Suspect who knocked off the Chase on 2nd Avenue wanted for 2 more bank robberies

The suspect who got away with $1,080 from the Chase branch on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place Saturday afternoon is now also wanted in connection with two more bank robberies on Monday.

Per CBS New York:

Around 2:40 p.m. Monday, a robber walked into the Citibank branch at 1107 Broadway near Madison Square Park and handed a note to the teller demanding money, police said. The suspect made off with $600.

Around 3:20 p.m. Monday, the suspect walked into a Chase Bank branch at 835 Broadway near Union Square, and handed the teller a demand note, police said. The suspect made off with $4,740.

In total, he's made off with $6,420. (He's almost made his share of the rent!)

The NYPD released the following description of the suspect:

"white male (possibly albino), 5'10", mid to late 20s, light colored hair with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black and grey jacket, dark rimmed glasses, black sneakers with a red bandana around his neck."

And now there's video of the rather uneventful robbery at Chase (via Gothamist)...

Reader report: Chase branch robbed on 2nd Avenue

The one at St. Mark's Place. (Not the one on East 10th Street.) Officers on the scene earlier this afternoon confirmed a robbery to onlookers. No other details at the moment.

In May 2013, a man named Jerry Gomillion reportedly tried to rob this branch.

The Hole on the Roof Gang, perhaps?

Someone knocked off the Popular Community Bank on Delancey Street near Essex Street.

From the Post:

Daring thieves sawed a gaping hole in the roof of a bank on the Lower East Side on the Fourth of July — as rooftop revelers nearby were distracted by the fireworks show on the East River, police sources and witnesses said.

Report: Tellers snub would-be bank robber on the Bowery

According to the Daily Blotter in the Post today, a man tried to rob the Chase on the Bowery at East First Street… but walked out empty-handed after tellers ignored his threat.

To the report!

The man slipped a note penned on a Whole Foods receipt to a teller ... at 12:18 p.m. Monday.

The note read, “Give me all the money nobody getting hurt!” the sources said.

The robber then whispered in a West Indian accent, “Just read it,” according to the sources.

The teller ignored him and walked away.

Infuriated, the crook screamed at a second teller, “Give me the money!” the sources said.

That teller, too, walked away without giving the would-be robber anything.

What can we learn from this?

Man with last name of Gomillion tried to rob East Village bank

The NYPD Daily Blotter in the Post today notes a botched robbery attempt at the Chase branch on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place. A man named Jerry Gomillion, 63, passed a "demand note" to a teller on May 23.

To the Post.

But when the teller, instead of cooperating, showed the note to a co-worker, Gomillion abruptly turned around and fled, perhaps forgetting about the bank’s video cameras.

He was later arrested.

'White Glove Bandit' nabbed near Tompkins Square Park

Investigators from the FBI and NYPD arrested the so-called "White Glove Bandit" earlier today "as he walked into a bodega near Tompkins Square Park around 12:30 p.m.," the Daily News reported.

Law enforcement officials said that 42-year-old Michael McManus robbed four banks since January, including (allegedly!) the HSBC branch on Broadway and East Ninth Street yesterday.

Here's some video of him from the FBI (Hi Mulder! Hi Scully!) website... of the suspect robbing the Citibank on LaGuardia Place...

DNAinfo noted that McManus "has been arrested 50 to 60 times since 1992 for crimes ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, including robbery."

Today in great disguises for robbing a bank!

Earlier today, an EV Grieve reader sent along the following email:

"Not sure what's going on, but for the past 2 days, there has been an ARMED GUARD outside the Bank of America on 2nd Ave and 4th Street. Khaki pants, white polo shirt and a GLOCK on his belt. Just standing there."

Well! As DNAinfo reports, the man in the photo behind tried to rob the bank on Monday. He left empty-handed. "He is described as in his 40s, 5-foot-5 tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has dark hair and was last seen wearing a white shirt and carrying a black backpack."

The note, written in black ink, read, “I have a gun. Give me all your money and return the slip to me with the money.”

The teller told her manager what happened, and the manger ordered her to hand over $776. The crook escaped with the loot.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5-foot-7 with a medium build and fairly clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a black wrap around his sunglasses and a black waits length jacket.

Bank robber looks familiar

Police have released the photo of a man they say robbed the Capitol One Bank at 21 University Place on Eighth Street, according to DNAinfo.

Despite the similarities in the photos, I suppose we can rule out one possible suspect....

Reader report: Attempted ATM holdup on Avenue A doesn't go so well for would-be thief

A reader notes that there was an attempted robbery last evening (some time around 8:30 p.m. or so) at the Chase branch on Avenue A at Second Street. As the story goes, a woman, the intended victim, "beat the shit out of the guy and he left on a stretcher in handcuffs." There was also a very strong police response.

Anyone else have any information?

Chase branch robbed on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place

We're getting word that the Chase branch here was robbed first thing this morning. No other information as of right now. And no word if any of the 37 other bank branches in the next few blocks were knocked off either.

Welcome to our pretty bank branch

We've written before about the increase in bank robberies in NYC this year. Fancy bank branches abound on seemingly every corner of some East Village streets. It's so convenient! On the topic of the increase in bank robberies, the Times makes this observation today:

A look at the data shows that bank robbers seem to prefer some of the inviting environments of the newer banks on the city scene. Sovereign, Wachovia and Commerce — with plants arrayed on marble floors, jars of lollipops set on low-slung counters and no bullet-resistant barriers between tellers and customers — have some the highest ratios of robberies to branches.

I wonder when bank officials will realize these sparkly new branches are in the middle of an enormous metropolitan area, and not in Pleasantville USA...

Crime stat of the day: Bank robberies up 57 percent in NYC this year

"There are a lot more desperate people," a law-enforcement source told the Post. There have been 263 bank heists in the Big Apple this year, compared with 168 in the same period last year, sources said. That's an increase of 56.5 percent. Perhaps it's more tempting -- or convenient? -- to rob a bank these days since there are bank branches on nearly every corner.
