EVG reader Jen Pace shared this photo from the 13th Street side of the Verizon building at Second Avenue... where the Verizon maintenance crew is re-engaged in a brown paint battle with taggers... the wall was painted over late last week. And the band played on.

Updated: Brown out again at the Verizon building

The staff watching over the Verizon building on Second Avenue at 13th Street has apparently stocked up again on brown paint... the tags that lined the 13th Street side were painted over last week...

Perhaps this marks a return to the brown paint wars that dominated local headlines from 2012-2014.

Tags would fill up the wall. Someone would cover them with brown paint. The tags would return. So did the brown paint. And so on.

For several years it seemed as if Verizon was willing to just let the graffiti stay (in part because the 13th Street side was covered with a sidewalk bridge...)

In any event, here's what the wall looked liked before the latest brown out last week...

Brown and out on East 13th Street

An EVG reader, with perhaps a hint of disappoint in his email, noted that we hadn't, uh, noted the ongoing graffiti v. brown-paint battle along Verizon's wall on East 13th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue in a really long time.

Sure enough, it has been nearly 15 months.

OK! So the wall still attracts various tags...

... and images...

...and whatever this was...

1st tag returns to Verizon's freshly painted brown wall

[This morning]

Workers painted over the rest of the tags along East 13th Street at Second Avenue on July 28.

It wasn't really the best brown paint job that we'd ever seen.

We walked by that day and noticed that workers got paint and water-blasted graffiti residue on the cars parked here.

[Updated] Verizon getting brown on it

Well! Thirteen whole months have passed since our last post about the graffiti vs. brown paint back-and-forth on the Verizon building along East 13th Street.

You know how it went. Verizon had someone paint over the graffiti on the side of the building … only to have it return days later.

After investing in security cameras and gallons and gallons of brown paint, it seemed as if Verizon had given up here at Second Avenue.

But now! Verizon is having the wall painted brown again…

About half finished now.

And the tags will certainly return. Just too tempting of a canvas to be left brown.

Updated 9:24 a.m.

A reader tells us that the scrubbing and painting continues this morning...

Verizon's freshly painted brown wall nearly lasts the weekend

We almost thought that Verizon had given up on painting over the graffiti along East 13th Street at Second Avenue ... been nearly a year ... but workers did just paint over all the tags... and this arrived during the weekend...

A quick check on the Verizon wall

Been months since checked in here along East 13th Street at Second Avenue...

Should likely be painted brown again soon... unless Verizon has some other priorities these days...

People are pretty much just mocking Verizon's brown wall now

Well, as EVG Verizon Brown Wall Correspondent evilnyc notes... the freshly planted Verizon Brown Wall along East 13th Street at Second Avenue lasted just about a week... and now, there's even an arrow pointing to the seemingly useless security cameras...

Don't it make my brown wall blue

Hey! What's this along the Verizon building on East 13th Street at Second Avenue...?

Brownness! Freshly brown!

And no parking.

East 13th Street today. Now all brown. Waving, not drowning.
