In other important news today, Rentenna updated its giant map of where celebrities live in the City.
Let's see how the East Village fared... For the second straight year, David Schwimmer leads the pack... even though he still doesn't live here (yet).
Who else ... Tom Cruise is listed on East 13th Street, where he recently sold his home ... Cynthia Nixon on East Sixth Street, though she bought a house on Bleecker... No Daniel Craig? No Zoltar? Lame!

Famous people looking at buying East Village home
According to a Hollywood Life exclusive, Katy Perry, who is famous for some reason, and her beau Russell Brand, are house shopping around these parts...
An eyewitness tells us she ran into the wacky couple walking into an open house at an apartment building in the East Village on April 11, just as she was walking out.
Dressed like they hadn’t changed since going out the night before — our eyewitness says Russell was wearing skintight leather pants, while Katy was sporting a skin-tight mini skirt with lace print and platform shoes — the couple checked out the two bedroom apartment in the village’s Alphabet City neighborhood. And although we couldn’t get an asking price out of her, our eyewitness did tell us that she heard Russell ask if he could use the bathroom, which is apparently a big no-no at open houses.
Hmmm... the Copper Building had an open house today... Here are other open houses today that fit the bill...

Orange crush: Why Jude Law tossed his fruit at NYU frosh
Yesterday, I pointed out the piece from Washington Square News about Jude Law living right across the way of an NYU frosh dorm. Well! Today, the Post follows up on the article, noting:
In Shakespeare's day, audience members heckled actors by hurling rotten fruit. But a few weeks ago, when Law's yoga session was interrupted, the fruit flew in the opposite direction.
"He noticed we were there and we started waving at him. Then he went inside and came back with two oranges," freshman Neha Najeeb told The Post. "He threw them at our window, but he missed." Law then went back inside and returned with two additional oranges, she said.
"This time, he hit the windows -- there was orange pulp on the glass for a week -- and then he went back to working out," she said. "Now we don't like Jude Law anymore."

One reason, perhaps, why Jude Law moved in next to a freshmen dorm at NYU
From Washington Square News:
On a recent night, a group of freshmen girls (and several boys) on the ninth floor of Hayden residence hall fought each other for a spot at the window in a dorm room. They all pressed their faces against the glass, straining to catch a glimpse of someone a few floors below in the building behind Hayden.
The word was spreading — Jude Law had officially moved in next door.
"We didn't even know he lived here," Tisch freshman Erica Rose said. (Her room is where the students gather to spy.) "I just came home one day and the entire floor was in my room staring out the window," Rose said.
And!
LSP freshman Bryan Hall said he feels bad for Law.
He said: "He moved in next to a freshmen dorm, so he'll always be ogled by freshmen girls."

For anyone who has ever wanted to spend the day with Barbara Corcoran
Yesterday, of course, was Barbara Corcoran's 60th birthday. (Hope that you remembered to buy some property!) Anyway, quite by accident, I stumbled upon a Corcoran feature in the Times from March 5, 2000, titled What Do You Do All Day?
Let's take a look, shall we!
Wednesday, Jan. 19
6:00 a.m. Lana Zinger, Russian-born personal trainer, arrives for morning workout.
6:30 Tommy, 6, watches his mother work out. Between crunches, requests reading from "Harry Potter." Request denied.
7:00 Makeup artist arrives.
7:15 Dresses (brown Christian Lacroix suit with Herms scarf).
7:45 Takes Tommy to school in cab. It is absolutely freezing.
8:10 Arrives at Tavern on the Green to give speech at her company's awards breakfast.
8:15 Talks janitor into letting her practice her speech in a broom closet.
8:55 Emerges feeling confident, but "like Aunt Clara on 'Bewitched' -- dusty and smelling of Lysol."
9:00 At podium in front of 500 sales agents, clinks glass to get attention. Glass breaks.
Boring!
1:00 Sharon Baum walks in dressed in fur-trimmed suit with faux-diamond "Sold" pin. Corcoran says, "Boy, if you're not rich you certainly look it." Departs in Baum's Rolls-Royce for lunch at the Lobster Club. Shares creamed spinach, biscuits, French fries with Baum. Discusses whether the market will survive if the dot-com companies take a hit, how even Wall Streeters with millions in cash can't find apartments.
2:45 Departs restaurant. Gets call from office saying that the seller of the nine-room Park Avenue apartment she's been wanting to buy for herself finally wants to make a deal. Phones from car. ("I'm so nervous, I have to stop thinking like a sweaty-palmed buyer and start thinking like a broker.") Strategizes with Baum about how to be the winning bidder. Baum tells her to get as much information as she can about the family. Makes the call to the Park Avenue seller. "Oh, God, I got disconnected. Does anyone else have a cell phone?" Everyone in the car has a cell phone, including the driver. Still can't get through. Is now very hyper. Stays in the car and keeps trying while Baum looks at multimillion-dollar "maisonette" on upper Fifth Avenue.
4:00 Driver drops Corcoran off at gym, where she meets Becky Wood, Tommy's nanny, and watches Tommy swim.

When 2-3 apartments in the same building just aren't enough
Tom Cruise has reportedly gobbled up five units in the American Felt Building on 13th Street, where he and Mrs. C have been staying of late. "One they use for a gym, and two apartments are for staff." You may now make a "he must have a big staff" joke. Or not. (Page Six)

Noted (ZOMG edition)
Yes, yes...several people have told me that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are living in the East Village while she is appearing on Broadway...at the American Felt Building on 13th Street near Fourth Avenue. (Or maybe not!) No shortage of photos of Tom and daughter Suri on the street...here they are on Fourth Avenue via the Vulture.

Inside Aubrey O'Day's apartment (for some reason)
I love when the New York Post takes us inside the homes of really famous celebrities!
In the paper's real-estate section on Thursday, we were treated to an inside look at the one-bedroom Midtown apartment of 24-year-old Aubrey O'Day. You know, she's in the pop band Danity Kane! (Yeah, me neither.) She's also starring now in Hairspray on Broadway!
But her apartment!
She chose an apartment not too far from the theater and right in the middle of just about everything else.
"I love this building," she says, in a soft voice that's a cross between Marilyn Monroe's and a Valley Girl's. "And I love being in Midtown. There are great sushi restaurants in the neighborhood, and I'm right across from Pinkberry."
The one-bedroom, one-bath apartment with a kitchen area measures 725 square feet, according to the building's management, but it looks smaller. If she feels cramped, O'Day isn't complaining.
"There are big closets," she says, "and I have tons of clothes. And there are lots of drawers and cabinets to put things in."
To offset the earth tones of the contemporary furnishings, O'Day brought in pink and orange pillows for "a bit of warm personality and excitement," she says. "I also brought in lots of flowers and candles and photos; there are tons of them all over my apartment. They're all of me and my friends and the different things my girl group has done. Some of them are magazine covers.
"My apartment smells really good," she adds. "I have tons of smelly stuff like perfumed sprays and scented candles. I love vanilla candles and lilac."
She also filled up one wall with photos of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
"They're real celebrities," O'Day says. "That's my favorite wall in the house. My favorite place in the house is my bed." But she's happiest, she says, when her dog, Ginger (a Teacup Maltese), is curled up on her doggie bed.
Another of O'Day's additions to the apartment is a big floor-length mirror where she puts on her makeup. "I'm definitely a makeup girl," she admits.

Looking at Socialite Olivia Palermo's "Sweet Spot"
Page Six Magazine yesterday took a close-up look at 22-year-old socialite Olivia Palermo's new one-bedroom Tribeca apartment in a piece titled "Living: Socialite Olivia Palermo's Sweet Spot."
The lead:
“I’m so excited to be living in my own home,” says socialite Olivia Palermo, surrounded by clothes racks, shoes and handbags in her colorful, 63-square-foot walk-in closet accented with a zebra-print rug. Olivia is photographing outfits she has selected for a short trip to Los Angeles so she’ll know exactly what she wants to wear while she’s there. “This is the space I love the most. You can see it the second you walk in,” she says. “It represents me.”
Inspired by pictures of Mariah Carey’s spacious NYC home . . ..
This is the point that I stopped reading the article. If you'd like to continue....
