This morning in TV shoots

Photos by Derek Berg

EMTs were spotted removing a body this morning on Seventh Street between Avenue A and Avenue B... as part of a shoot for "American Horror Story" ("Bandana" on the posted film notices)...
Crews for AHS were in the East Village back in the summer as filming for season 11 got underway.

And this block of Seventh Street is apparently getting popular for TV deaths: "Law & Order" investigated a young woman's murder along here in February.

This week in film-TV shoots

There's a busy week ahead for filming around the East Village ... tomorrow sees "Big Indie Smith" shooting along Avenue A and Tompkins Square Park (and 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B).

"Big Indie Smith" is code for a TV series remake of the 2005 Brad-and-Angelina vehicle "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Donald Glover and Maya Erskine (taking over for Phoebe Waller-Bridge) are the leads in this series for Amazon Prime.

Also!
Notices are up along Fourth Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery for "Brass Tactics" ... code for the upcoming Apple+ series "City on Fire" based on the 2015 book by Garth Risk Hallberg. (We wrote about this production here.) Both BT pics by Derek Berg

Crews were prepping Rivington Guitar (Pawn Shop!) today for tomorrow's shoot ...
LAST BUT NOT LEAST.

The "Gossip Girl" reboot for HBO Max will be filming along Avenue A and some side streets (like Fourth) on Thursday and Friday... pic by Stacie Joy...

Thursday's parting shot

We received a lot of queries today about what was filming on Avenue A along Tompkins Square Park ... the production notices read "Nine Orchard," which is likely a fake name.

Anyway, we don't know! But! There may have been a stunt vampire, per this phot by Derek Berg...

The 'Law & Order' with recently filmed scenes on 7th Street airs tomorrow night

Photo on 7th Street on Feb. 8 by Derek Berg

As you may recall, on Feb. 8, crews for the all-new "Law & Order" filmed scenes on Seventh Street along Tompkins Square Park. (The neighborhood is no stranger to the show and its spinoffs through the years.)

Photos from the shoot (right here) saw Anthony Anderson's Det. Bernard and newcomer Jeffrey Donovan's Det. Frank Cosgrove investigate a murder, complete with a blood-splattered van on Seventh Street and, later, a candlelit memorial in the Park featuring an 8x10 of a young woman.

The episode filmed here airs tomorrow (March 10) on NBC at 8. (H/T Steven!)

Per the description of the episode titled "Filtered Life" ...
Detectives Kevin Bernard and Frank Cosgrove investigate the disappearance of a social media star whose case takes the internet by storm; whilst A.D.A.'s Nolan Price and Samantha Maroun must weigh their decisions regarding the case against the wishes of the missing woman's family.

And the trailer, featuring a few glimpses of Tompkins...

'Law & Order' prep walk

"Law & Order" came to town the East Village today.

As noted yesterday, crews erected a tent city ahead of filming in Tompkins Square Park, not all that different from the actual tent city the city discarded in the same area this past November

EVG correspondent Steven shared these pics from earlier today... as some film vehicles were put into place on Seventh Street between Avenue A and Avenue B... (maybe this will be an episode about illegal van AirBnBs?) ...
... of course, we weren't the only media outlet here... those pesky SOBs from WXDV were on hand along with a crew from 1NYC...
... a crew member also created a makeshift memorial inside Tompkins Square Park for a scene...
The original "Law & Order" debuts on NBC on Feb. 24. No word when this episode will air.

This 21st season will once again feature Sam Waterston as Jack McCoy ... new cast members include Odelya Halevi as ADA Samantha Maroun, Jeffrey Donovan as Det. Frank Cosgrove and Hugh Dancy as senior prosecutorial assistant Nathan Price.

The Emmy-winning series originally ran for 20 seasons on NBC, from 1990 to 2010, with 456 episodes. The franchise has been a regular presence on EV streets during its run.

Stay tuned for a few more pics!

Your 'Russian Doll' reader

"Russian Doll" debuted on Nexflix on Feb. 1. The macabre, eight-episode series, created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, is set in the East Village ... with many EV locales, including Ben's Deli on Avenue B, Vazac's/7B/Horseshoe Bar on Seventh Street and Avenue B, and Tompkins Square Park.

Lyonne (who has lived around here and and off through the years) plays the lead character who keeps dying and coming back to life at the same point during her 36th birthday party...

Anyway, I'd been meaning to write about the show — mostly for the use of the EV locales. However, I've only watched the first two episodes (I like it, though I'm not much of a binge watcher. I'm an episode-a-week person mostly). Meanwhile, there have been about 5 million articles written on "Russian Doll," with a few more million to arrive before I get through the next six episodes.

Here then instead, a selection of articles on the show...

Crews were out today filming scenes for "Russian Doll," an eight-episode Netflix series from Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler.

The comedy series follows Lyonne (pictured above) "on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York," per Hollywood Reporter.

Here's Lady Jday's Sing For Hope piano that will be in Tompkins Square Park the next few weeks

Starting today, the NYC-based nonprofit Sing For Hope will once again place 50 colorfully decorated pianos in parks and other locations around the five boroughs through June 24. The program is now in its seventh year.

Lady JDay, who was born in Paris, created the piano (pictured above) that will be in Tompkins Square Park for the next few weeks.

Here's more about her work via the Sing For Hope website:

For Lady JDay, commitment is both a necessity and a way of working. This can be seen in her paintings where women's rights are advocated. Whether these women are strong or the victims of violence and oppression, Lady JDay stands up for them. Portraying women is for her an approach and a governing principle.

Lady Jday is a committed artist who contributes through her painting and performances in Street Art to the recognition of women and their multiple talents. Her colorful and lively work, with expressive features, testifies to her ability to feel and relay their emotions. Lady Jday is in line with the Guerilla Girls, which promotes the place of women and people of color in the arts, and she's inspired by artists of Street Art and its encounters and travels.

This piano is a tribute to Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie.

After June 25, Sing for Hope will donate the pianos to NYC public schools.

For more information, visit the Sing For Hope website here.

Updated 5 p.m.

The piano has arrived in the Park... though it remains under wraps...

A 'no parking' annoyance

Crews for the new Netflix series "Russian Doll" have been spotted around the neighborhood.

While film shoots are, of course, a fairly regular occurrence around here, some residents have found this crew — particularly the parking production assistants — to be more aggressive than others in terms of blocking off space for their trucks and film equipment. On Eighth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, crews started putting down the cones on the block yesterday — 48 hours before the announced filming times.

The posted signs say that "parking can be held a maximum of 24 hours in advance of the date and times indicated ..." Filming on Eighth Street, as an annoyed EVG reader pointed out, is tomorrow from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. ...

The cones also arrived late Saturday on Avenue A between Seventh Street and 10th Street for yesterday's shoot.

'Sesame Street' and Chrysler team up in Tompkins Square Park

Crews were in Tompkins Square Park today to film a Chrysler commercial featuring characters from "Sesame Street" ... and it looked like the whole squad was on hand...

Derek Berg shared these photos...

Despite being filmed in the middle of a public park with iconic TV characters on a beautiful June day, we heard that crew members didn't always appreciate people taking photos...

Steven shared this photo of Count von Count in the passenger side...

... and more shots of the characters via Christopher J. Ryan...

The filming apparently will continue tomorrow.

7B train closed for repairs

If you depend on the 7B train, then you may need to find an alternative means of transportation tonight.

Eh, crews for the Amazon series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" will be filming here on Seventh Street and Avenue B tonight ... and inside 7B/Vazac's/Horseshoe Bar... (the bar is closed this evening, will return tomorrow at noon).

This marks the second night of filming around here for the 1950s-era drama

Fall TV preview underway

Busy week for filming in and around Tompkins Square Park. Yesterday, crews for the CBS drama "Blue Bloods" were filming scenes on Avenue B and 10th Street (and probably elsewhere) ... this afternoon, the NBC series "Blindspot" is filming in Tompkins Square Park... (some kind of press conference where someone pulls a gun...) The trucks are lined on Avenue B from Seventh Street to 11th Street...

[Bonus "Blindspot" dummy shot...or Margarita March survivor]

And tomorrow, there are posted signs around Avenue A and Fifth Street and Sixth Street for HBO's "The Deuce," which has already used East Village streets for some filming...

The return of 'Girls' and the end of the encampment outside Tompkins Square Park

Crews for "Girls" will be filming around parts of the neighborhood today... we spotted the signs along Avenue A and Tompkins Square Park as well as East Houston near Clinton Street. (And probably elsewhere?)

Season five recently concluded on HBO ... and the series will end after season six. So, presumably, this filming is for the last season.

Anyway! Coincidentally (or not), the encampment that had been growing in recent weeks at the entrance to Tompkins Square Park along Seventh Street was cleared out yesterday...

Before (photos via an EVG reader)...

...and yesterday afternoon...
