Are you missing your pet parrot?
Several readers noticed an exotic bird out in the wild this morning in Tompkins Square Park nearest to the entrance at Seventh Street and Avenue B.
EVG reader Clint was able to corral the bird, and now has it at home for safekeeping...
Per Clint: "It is a black-headed caique. It's very friendly and tame. It was obviously someone's pet and well cared for."
Does it belong to you?
Updated 1/31
Clint has not found the owner yet. There is a lead that it may belong to someone at St. Brigid's. Clint is talking contact there today.

Ephraim returns home
[William Klayer]
Ephraim, the rare parrotlet that got out of its owners' East 11th Street apartment more than a week ago, has returned home. DNAinfo's Serena Solomon reports that Julia Svindie rescued the missing pet from an East 14th Street sidewalk last Wednesday afternoon.
She returned the pet to its owners after spotting one of the flyers on Avenue A. Per the article, Ephraim talked the whole walk home to the apartment on East 11th Street, reciting phrases the bird had been taught such as "go get it" and "what a weirdo."
Here is DNAinfo's initial story about the missing pet.

Are you missing a bird?
From a reader just now in Tompkins Square Park:
Unfortunately, the reader didn't get a photo... but if you are missing a bird...
I saw a smallish, grey and blue (maybe some purple) budgie or parakeet or little parrot looking bird flying around tompkins square park at about 12:30 today. He was on the fence on the west/north side of the center lawn. When I stuck my hand out he flew away (he can fly pretty well) to the rail on the lawn just west of the center lawn. I tried to get close to him but he wouldn't let me. He was hanging with the wild birds and they weren't attacking him so maybe he'll be ok, but he must belong to someone.

A happy Schmidty ending
As you may recall, Schmidty the parrot went missing the other night... But! After an anxious day-and-a-half ... his owners report a happy reunion:
He was hanging out on a tree on Avenue D and 12th street. A young guy named Jorge called us at around 8am. After many false alarms in the past two days, this was truly our parrot ...
Without the support of the amazing community this would have not been possible. Thanks you to all of you who helped ...

Reunions! Missing bird — named Redrum — belongs to Lucky Cheng's owner
Yesterday, an East Second Street resident found this bird outside his window. (You can read that post here.) Turns out it's a Red Lorikeet.
And as of last night, we learned that it belongs to Lucky Cheng's owner Hayne Suthon, who lives nearby. As she said in an email, he somehow got spooked ... and got of her apartment and into the trees near her apartment. "He would not come down but called to me. I had no idea how I was going to get him down."
That he ended up on the other side of First Avenue comes as a bit of a surprise to her. "We never saw him fly before. He just hopped around and, even when the dog played with him, he would just coast like a plane that could not get airborne."
Suthon is relived that he is OK, and is grateful that his rescuers took such good care of him... and thankful to everyone who helped look for him.
The two will be reunited this morning.

Are you missing a bird?
So, a reader just spotted this bird outside his window on East Second Street apartment (between First Avenue and Second Avenue).
Per the reader: "Bird seemed quite agitated and freaked out, but with the help of a neighbor we were able to get the bird inside and are now trying to find its owner/what to do with it. It does have an identification band on its right leg, but I couldn't quite make out what it said on it."
Anyone?
