So long to the Clover Deli's iconic neon signage

Heading north outside the usual coverage area for a moment... Clover Deli officially closed last summer after 72 years on the corner of Second Avenue and 34th Street. The third-generation of the Cuttita Family had been running the deli.

On Saturday, workers removed the Clover's iconic neon signage... Yo La Tengo's Instagram account was among those who shared the news...

The owners also operate House of Wine & Liquor around the corner on 34th Street.

Archie & Sons now sporting neon signage

Over on Third Avenue just off St. Mark's, the newish Archie & Sons (try the tuna melt) now features a new neon sign... right there.

Previously on EV Grieve:
Archie & Sons, a new luncheonette, opening very soon at 23 Third Ave.

Tim Hortons will never win this neon-light battle on East Houston

That Tim Hortons-Cold Stone Creamery combo opened recently on East Houston near Ludlow... since then, the Hortoners added an admittedly pretty snazzy neon sign ...

But it's tough to compete in the neon-light category along here...

Rugs and Ugs

At EVG favorite Block Drugs on Second Avenue and East Sixth Street tonight ...

Last Monday!

We took a closer look at the sign on Sunday... the D is in the neon shop for repairs, as a few people noted in the comments or on Facebook...

Bowery Electric's new-look entrance; plus a new live room

We've been watching workers put in a new entrance over at The Bowery Electric...

Before...

[Bobby Williams]

We also recently watched a worker clean up the Bowery Electric's neon sign...

Anyway, here's the entrance now (well, as of Sunday anyway) ...

Aside from a new entryway... the Bowery Electric folks said that they are debuting a new live room tonight (it's at the back of the main bar) ... with a spoken word performance by Brother Mike Cohen...

Butter Lane gets the neon treatment

A new sign for Butter Lane Cupcakes on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. Makes it a little easier to spot coming from Avenue B.

24 hours...and 99 cents

In a recent post on two old signs that I like, commenter StuyTownFullofYunnies mentioned the flashing neon of the newish coffee shop on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. I knew that I had a picture of it somewhere. Like StuyTown, I love the flashing "open 24 hours" neon. Anyway, it's proof that a sign doesn't have to be 75 years old to be liked. Or something.

I also like the neon next door at the generally tacky 99-cent shop....
