Local blogger far too curious about the DBGB sidewalk cafe
On Monday, a local blogger blogged about the sidewalk cafe at DBGB on the Bowery. To date, the blogger had seen the outdoor cafe set up once.
Then! On Monday evening, the blogger noticed that the sidewalk cafe was UP and running; promptly causing the blogger to blog about that.
The blogger found it curious that Team DBGB would even bother putting out the sidewalk cafe on a typically slow evening — especially with hail-producing thunderstorms expected to pass over the city in the next few hours.
Then! Last night, on an evening the blogger described as "pleasant" to an acquaintance, there was no DBGB sidewalk cafe
To be continued, unfortunately....

Investigating that weird thingamajig on the Second Avenue Chase branch
The last time we looked at the Chase branch on Second Avenue at 10th Street, Rev. Billy & the Church of Life After Shopping had placed some coal mountain mud in the lobby... this afternoon, EV Grieve correspondent Blue Glass notes the presence of something else...
This!
There's only one (or two!) explanations... per Blue Glass: "Is this a DOT/ConEd curse?"
Perhaps!

Exclusive: The Penistrator didn't act alone
Given the behavior of some Smurfs cast members this spring .... authorities released the above photo... perhaps as a cautionary tale of some sort.

Even Porta-Potties get makeovers on the Bowery these days
Yesterday, BoweryBoogie and Curbed checked in on the progress at 257 Bowery, home of the new Sperone Westwater Gallery...
Meanwhile, to the important story here. I've been keeping tabs on the Call-A-Head for the construction workers at street level ... Even by Porta-Potty standards, this one was pretty sub-standard... But! Like many things on the Bowery of late, it had been converted.
...with the potential for a breeze...
And I finally got a look inside the space the other evening...
Not sure how much the owners are paying a square foot, but I do like what they have done with the limited space...

Le Da Nang sign up
Workers yesterday hung the new sign for the Vietnamese eatery taking over the former Sea space on Second Avenue between Fourth Street and Fifth Street.
Not the most exciting news. But! This may be the quickest renovation that we can recall... The plywood for this space went up at the end of January. We're so used to seeing renovations meander along...

Part of Levi Johnston's "Playgirl" photo shoot probably took place at the Cooper Square Hotel
The tweet showed up few hours ago...
In case you've been following this story.... Anyway, maybe this isn't even the real Twitter account for the 19-year-old father of Sarah Palin's grandson.

Tiger beat
Yes, as a matter of fact I am posting photos of a cat. Do you know Tiger at East Village Convenience on Second Avenue between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place? Well, if not...

Window pain on the Bowery
The Chase branch on Bowery and First Street lost a window the other day. And someone else left behind a little saliva on the window next to it...

Have you been toting middle school-style all summer?
From Style.com:
Backpacks showed up on several of the men’s Spring ‘10 runways — a good harbinger of trends to come, alongside the fact that I’ve been seeing hipster kids on the Lower East Side toting middle school-style all summer.

Walkman this way
Wow — the Sony Walkman was introduced 30 years ago this week. Which reminds me. I recently busted out my portable AM-FM/cassette Walkman from a long time ago. I needed a radio for something. Anyway, I was inspecting the Walkman on a crowded 4 train. And I discovered a tape was in the Walkman. XTC's "Skylarking"! (Had I used this thing since, say, 1986?) I was fumbling around with the batteries. Then I realize. These two recent-college-grad types are looking at me in mild disbelief and horror, perhaps. Like I'm poor or low-tech and can't have an iPod. When the tape rewinds, I give them a nod and press play.

Noted
Heard that some paparazzi and various stalkers were hanging out on Avenue B near Manitoba's last night...Why? Who knew! According to Celebrity Gossip, a Web site about, um, celebrity gossip, Rihanna was at East Side Ink "taking a lesson in tattooing and having a marvelous time."

Work out like Derek Jeter -- for at least seven days
This time of year sports clubs like to make us feel fat (fatter?) and pasty (pastier?). So we'd better join! Anyway, for some reason, I keep getting e-mails from the NEW! Derek Jeter ultra sports club health place thing for a free trial membership. Tempting! But probably not. Seems like a lot of work. Couldn't I just meet him at, oh, say, Butter?
PS
Truth is, I'm holding out for Gwynnie's gym.
