Own Olympic snowboarding champ Shaun White's A Building condo

Shaun White, the two-time Olympic gold-medalist snowboarder, is selling his penthouse condo over at the A Building on 13th Street, the Post reports.

Here's the listing for the unit (NOT the one that had the slide) in Ben Shaoul's pool-topped condoplex between Avenue A and First Avenue via Citi Habitats:

Come inside this stunning and south facing Two bedroom Two and one half bathroom sunlit highly coveted penthouse at the A building. Floor to ceiling windows and soaring 12 foot+ ceilings with open layout provide downtown views and beautiful sunrises on your private patio. The building is a full service luxury doorman building with fully equipped rooftop including a vibrant pool scene, gym, and garden. Modern finishes throughout the apartment combined with an abundance of natural light are sure to impress.

The Real Deal notes that the unit last sold for $2.9 million in 2014. Presumably White has owned it since then. (Not sure how much time he actually spent there.)

Current asking price: $2.79 million.

Sliding home is now slightly less expensive now in the A Building

A reader yesterday sent us a link to the Freshome site, which had a feature on everyone's favorite East Village helical-slide-showcasing duplex penthouse ...

We had almost forgotten about this SliPlex in the A-Building... We wrote about it back in March 2011... turned out that Phil Galfond, a professional poker player, owned this place. In February, The Wall Street Journal reported that the home was for sale with a $3.99 million price tag.

You'd figure any penthouse duplex with a game room, terrace putting green and a giant slide would be snapped up in a hurry around these parts ... Actually, we looked, and found that the place is still on the market — now just $3.699 after a 7 percent price cut on July 27, according to Streeteasy.

You can take a video-slide tour of it over at Curbed.

20 months later, A Building finally free of sidewalk shed, construction netting

Over on East 13th Street, the pool-topped A Building is visible again... On Aug. 31, 2010, workers put up a sidewalk shed here between Avenue A and First Avenue ... On Sept. 12, 2011, workers put up the construction netting...

So, roughly 20 months later, the crews have cleared up all signs of the repair work...

According to a DOB permit, workers were completing "balcony repairs."

You can read about the background on the "massive headaches" at the A Building in The Real Deal.

'Just-renovated' A Building penthouse on resale market with a little off the top

Over at the A Building, the Party Palace on 13th Street ... a penthouse just went on the market. According to Streeteasy, the owner bought it in March 2008 for $1,909,218. It's now listed for $1,895,000.

Well, here are a few views....

And the listing:

This just-renovated south-facing penthouse with terrace at The A Building features wonderful sun and sky, 11 foot ceilings, and exceptional contemporary finishes, including LV Bespoke 6 inch wide oak plank floors, Somfi motorized shades, and a B&W surround sound system in the living room with a second zone for the terrace. The ideal layout offers space for a large dining area plus several seating areas, great for entertaining. Both the living room and master bedroom open directly out onto the sunny, 250 SF south-facing terrace, perfect for accommodating dinner guests or just for stumbling straight out of bed to enjoy the flowers and soak up the sun. *Please note, there is a special assessment of $145.98 per month through December of 2011.

Hmm.

Odd that a three-year-old building would feature a "just-renovated" penthouse. Or not, as The Real Deal pointed out last year in an article titled "Massive headaches at the A Building." As TRD reported: "Faulty construction has afflicted roughly a quarter of the A Building's 96 units with serious leakage and mold issues."

In any event, see the penthouse for yourself this Sunday during the open house from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Hey, and bring your swimsuit!

P.S.
If you don't care for this unit, there are six other homes for sale in the A Building, per Streeteasy.

A Building sidewalk shed sits and waits

Late last summer, workers erected a sidewalk shed outside the World Famous A Building on 13th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... Per the DOB, there's a permit for the shed "for emergency repair to balconies."

Can't be that much of an emergency... we have yet to see any work take place on the balconies... as a walk by the other morning suggests...

A Building sidewalk shed ushers in new crisis: How will residents hail a cab?

Per Tuesday's post, workers began erecting a sidewalk shed in front of the two-year-old pool-party-palace the A Building on East 13th Street... Shed up! The DOB issued the work permit yesterday for...

... "emergency repair to balconies." (The Real Deal reported on some of the problems with the building back in April.)

Meanwhile, speaking of emergencies...

... the sidewalk shed now obstructs one of the building's many amenities....

... the light-up sign for hailing taxis....

Or maybe the sign had to be removed. Well, at least the sidewalk shed will keep residents out of the elements while waiting for a cab.

The latest A Building amenity: sidewalk shed

Over at the A Building on 13th Street, workers are currently erecting a sidewalk shed outside the world-famous, pool-party palace...

There's doesn't appear to be anything on file with the DOB that might explain the need for the sidewalk shed... However, there are a handful of recent complaints on file with the DOB:

FAILURE TO MAINTAIN BALCONIES THROUGH-OUT BUILDING

And!

FACADE - DEFECTIVE/CRACKING

Perhaps workers are ready to fix some of the "massive" problems found at the building, as The Real Deal reported earlier this year... Per The Real Deal's Sarah Ryley:

Beneath the two-year-old building's reputation for hosting raucous rooftop pool parties lies a reality worse than the most killer hangover -- flooding, crumbling balconies, alleged mismanagement of the condo board's funds and two unresponsive developers who have left owners banging their heads against mold-ridden walls, claim several residents who forwarded dozens of documents detailing these issues to The Real Deal.
