That dumpster outside the Mars Bar
Early last evening, Goggla noted the arrival of a dumpster alongside the Mars Bar ... Perhaps it's in advance of tonight's street party-protest?
So we took a look inside this morning... not much of interest. Kind of looked like someone ransacked an IKEA store.

Why you can eat on (part of) Third Avenue today
Today marks the end of the 2nd Annual Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. Per the Kiehl's news release:
From July 31 to August 6, 2011, members of the Kiehl’s team, and a group of notable motorcycling enthusiasts, will be raising funds and awareness for amfAR during a seven-day motorcycle ride. This philanthropic journey was inspired by Kiehl’s longtime love of motorcycles and spirit of adventure.
Our very own Chris Salgardo, President of Kiehl’s USA, and Alain de Cadenet, Le Mans racer and ESPN “Speed Channel” Host, will lead riders from Pennsylvania to Massachusettes to New York City, with five stops along the way. The group of riders includes Tyson Beckford, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tricia Helfer, Justin Chatwin, Katee Sackhoff, Teddy Sears, Christopher Redman, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Cox, Paul d’Orleans, Conrad Leach and many other cherished friends of Kiehl’s.
So expect about 160 bikers on Third Avenue today rolling up to the Kiehl's HQ at 13th Street ... Meanwhile, you can eat stuff on Third Avenue ... All this is going on from noon to 4 p.m.
Here's the menu... including cupcakes from Magnolia ...
Hope that everyone is respectful of the Mystery Lot!
The menu also includes Cherrywood-smoked pork with chili vinegar and "bad ass chips" with blue cheese dressing ... and Sixpoint Brevity Belgian Wit...
Kiehl's is donating $100,00 to amFar today.
P.S.
Anyone remember the last time that we saw Tyson Beckford on a motorcycle? (Go here for the answer)
Meanwhile, traffic on Third Avenue will be a little dicey until 1 p.m.
Summer Streets start up today... today, next Saturday and Aug. 20 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. So Fourth Avenue is closed to vehicles...
...and thefuzz NYPD have the side streets blocked off along Third Avenue ...

On occasion we'll revisit an old EVG blog post ... like this one from Aug. 14, 2008...
Here are some archival photos I came across showing locals doing their shopping on Avenue C and Sixth Street in April 1950.
Here's a photo I took the other day showing locals doing their shopping on Seventh Street near Avenue B.

Bob Arihood spotted the car on Wednesday on Seventh Street at Avenue A. Now, as of this morning, the car has made it all the way over to 13th Street and Second Avenue...
