There's no mention of a closure on the Patricia Field Instagram account or website, though Google now lists the shop as permanently closed.
A well-placed source confirmed that the boutique has shut down — a move that "came as a surprise to everyone." The online store will remain operational.
The legendary costume designer, who turned 85 last month, graduated from NYU in 1963. She opened her first shop, Pants Pub, on Washington Place in Greenwich Village, in 1966 at age 24.
Field later operated longtime retail spaces on East Eighth Street and the Bowery. Her film and TV credits include Sex and the City" and "The Devil Wears Prada."
Her East Broadway outpost opened in the fall of 2024.
Here's a video from Nelson Sullivan, from the mid-1980s, showing the Field shop on Eighth Street...

Nelson Sullivan, the very first videographer and EV's best documentarian. He captured the East and West Villages in their heydays. And look at Lisa E ! The Club Kid before she was an actress.
She actually is 84 not 85.
Some sources from 2023–2025 may refer to her as 84, but based on her 1941 birthdate, she turned 85 in February 2026. More sources list her as 85.
I love the Nelson Sullivan video! The people and clothes are tres cool. And I never saw Pat Fields with that look.
I have a friend from London who was a big fan and regular customer who always spent a lot of cash there whenever she came to town. This winter she walked all the way down there from her hotel near Houston Street and when she got there it was closed in the middle of there opening hours. She had been calling their listed number but the line was broken. I guess Pat didn’t have reliable kids running the place, which is odd. She’s always had nightlife characters working her shops and they always managed to open the doors at the stated hours of operation. It’s a shame. Pat and her shop are NYC treasures.
