Rest in pieces: The Salvation Army's former East Village Residence is gone

The Salvation Army's former East Village Residence on the Bowery at East Third Street is pretty much officially gone. We spotted a few bricks and beams through the plywood on Saturday. Otherwise…

Flashback!

The serious demo work commenced on Nov. 10.

Workers demolished the building to make way for a 13-floor, 30,000 square-foot mixed-use residential development. We haven't seen any renderings for the new building yet.

Here's a sketch of the proposed building for 347 Bowery that we spotted at the owner Urban Muse's website back in March...

At 13 floors, it will be blocking some views to residents who live next door at 52E4, the 15 stories of condo with a gated entrance on East Fourth Street. Some residents of the new building will also enjoy pool views below at 52E4.

John Legend's Bowery condo now $55,000 off asking price

Late last September, we learned that Grammy Award-winner John Legend was selling his two-bedroom condo at 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street — for $2.95 million.

Despite the celebrity connection and model-in-underwear-photoshoot cachet, the place is still on the market. But! Last week, the price dropped by $55,000 — or a whole 2 percent ... and it now sits at $2.895 million, according to Streeteasy.

Why just 2 percent? As Curbed pointed out in November, Legend's downstairs neighbor put nearly an identical unit on the market for $2.9 million — nearly $50k less, uh, duh. (The neighbor's unit appears to be off the market for now, though there isn't any sales info.)

Perhaps there's something else keeping away buyers ... like the 7-Eleven on the ground floor or fear of the French hotel coming (probably) some day to the corner of East Third Street ...

Noted

Spotted recently on the gated driveway outside 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street.

Back in 15 minutes? What happens if we have an important delivery for John Legend that can't wait?

Speaking of expensive things on the Bowery ...

Back in October, we pointed out John Legend's home that he was selling inside 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street. Unit #9 is on the market for $2.95 million.

Yesterday, #8 hit the market... a similar looking two-bedroom apartment (right next door?) with a $2.9 million price tag. (According to StreetEasy, the apartment originally sold in October 2009 for $2 million.)

You can read the Douglas Elliman listing here. You know the drill: FrenchOakfloorsaccentuatesleekMasterbathfeaturesLeaCeramiche&CiottilewallsventedLGW/D&custom closets...

We just want to look at the pictures.

Open house is Sunday from 1-2:30 p.m. Think that the pool is still open? Cannonball!

And how will the incoming hotel next door block impact the views here?

And now, let's go inside John Legend's apartment

Last Thursday, Jennifer Gould Keil at the the Post reported that Grammy Award-winner John Legend was selling his two-bedroom condo at 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street — for $2.95 million.

The listing is now online at Prudential Elliman.

Let's take a look.

Here's the copy:

Panoramic Living - Enjoy spectacular views from the luminous walls of glass, that make up this fifteen story 'iconic' tower. 52 East 4th is the 'ultimate' in downtown luxury living, featuring direct elevator access, surround sound, dramatic ceiling heights, architectural steel trusses, and state-of-the-art bathrooms and kitchen, all designed by Andre Escobar. This full service condominium is situated in the highly desired East Village, directly adjacent to The Bowery Hotel. Building amenities include a setback and landscaped building entrance, parking garage, roof deck and an exterior spa-swimming pool. Doorman from 8AM-8PM. The only thing missing in this 'unique' masterpiece is you!

Thoughts? Nice. A lot of taupe. Not the best color in case you spill a Slurpee purchased from the 7-Eleven on the ground floor.

The Bowery losing its Legend?

Looks like 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street — is losing a celebrity tenant.

According to Jennifer Gould Keil at the the Post today, nine-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend's two-bedroom condo is on the market for $2.95 million. (He paid $1.9 million for the place in 2009.) We didn't see the listing posted just yet...

The Post is quick to note that he "still loves the apartment but also loves looking at real estate and could be ready to upgrade."

What's not to love about the surrounding area with the 7-Eleven coming soon to the building's retail space on the Bowery and that godawful-looking hotel in the works for the former Salvation Army residence on the corner of East Third Street?

Anyway, you may remember seeing Legend's apartment via Esquire and the photo shoot with his girlfriend, Chrissy Teigen, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.

Can't wait for the Open House!

[Updated] And the Bowery dies a little more: Here comes 7-Eleven

Workers have arrived at 351 Bowery ... the long-dormant retail space in the base of 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo...

...and the plans for the space are sitting on the make-shift desk in the window...

Hold on. Let me pick myself up of the floor....

With the Subway across the street, this is really going to have a suburban feel... In any event, given the space and the high rents, we weren't expecting much aside from a bank branch.

Updated 1:30 p.m.: A 7-Eleven spokesperson tells Garth Johnston at Gothamist that the store will open on Oct. 5.

Is Scarano's 52E4 falling apart on the Bowery?

That's what a reader asked who sent along the above photo on the Bowery at East Fourth Street ... Well, yeah — looks like a few of those slats-like things are missing ... We'll ask Chrissy.

Because you wanted to see John Legend's half-naked model girlfriend in her Bowery home

Chrissy Teigen, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who lives with John Legend, let Esquire into the couple's home at 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street.

"Is that the Cooper Square Hotel or are you just happy to see me?"

There are plenty of other photos at Esquire featuring various states of boobage and buttocks.

Been several months since we checked in on anything to do with 52E4, the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street.

Now, a splendiferous two-bedroom condo is back at the market. According to Streeteasy, the unit was originally listed at $2.3 million in 2008. (It was sold in November 2009 for $2,168,872, according to records.) Now, the asking price is $3 million.

Why John Legend may have problems getting the car out of the garage

The driveway here at the gated Bowery high-rise — 52E4 tower of condo — to John Legend and other fashionable people is tight to begin with... add a few humongo bags and trash and....

...passable, especially on two wheels...

Warning! While James Bond may be able to do this in "Diamonds Are Forever," please do not attempt this coming out of your own gated driveway.

P.S.

A Rip Con production on the Bowery

I continue to obsess over watch the retail space in 52E4, the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery near Fourth Street... more lease/rent/buy/anything! signs went up Friday...

...Looking at the new signs, I think this space would give me some pause...if you want to read into it... Rip Con? Rip Co?

Of course, I still pay my ConEd bill every month.

Looking at 52E4's commercial space, and that cake no one ate

After the attempts to open The Bowery Bazaar/Boutiques on Bowery this past fall/winter... I'm curious what's next for the commercial space at 52E4, the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery near Fourth Street...

Last Thursday, there was some kind of one-day exhibit in the space... and no one apparently liked the Crayon cake... it was still sitting there a few days later...

Meanwhile, the big slab of commercial space on the third floor remains on the market for $2 million. Core listed the property back in January...

In case you're curious. Per the Core listing:

Commercial condo of 3,775 sf, comprising the entire third floor for sale at downtown's hottest address on the Bowery. Located beneath the residential 52 East 4th Street, which has won the Society of American Registered Architects 2008 Design Award, this space can be bought as a whole or several pieces. The commercial entrance is at 351 Bowery (between E 4th and E 3rd Street) with 43 feet of oversized glass frontage facing west and additional windows facing north. Private elevator and bathrooms provided. Available immediately. Neighbors include Whole Foods, The New Museum, Gemma, Patricia Fields, John Varvatos, The Box, The Bowery Hotel, The Cooper Square Hotel, Blue and Crea. [sic]

Do you get pool rights too?

Boutiques on Bowery likely not opening yesterday — or ever

I've been watching the goings-on at The Bowery Bazaar/Boutiques on Bowery ... located inside the retail space in 52E4, the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery near Fourth Street. Originally scheduled to open Feb. 1 ... the etched-in-glass Boutiques on Bowery signage went up in the middle of February... It has been a strange saga. One day last week we received a note from one of the designers stating BOB was opening March 1... Then! On Friday, BoweryBoogie noted: "The latest word is that they’ve decided not to reopen as Boutiques on Bowery and to close for good."

I walked by last night... no more naked mannequins...no more etched-in-glass Boutiques on Bowery signage...
