Mimi's close to serving hummus and other Middle-Eastern fare on East 14th Street

Just noting the recent arrival of the signage at the new home for Mimi's Hummus on East 14th Street just west of Second Avenue...

Back in the spring, Eater reported that the Ditmas Park-based Mimi's was expanding into Manhattan with locations at the Vanderbilt food hall next to Grand Central (now open!) and the East Village.

The 6-year-old Mimi's, which Eater says serves "some of the city's best hummus and shakshuka," will have an expanded menu here that includes "a few larger plates at dinner like lemon chicken meatballs, brisket, and the Middle Eastern rice and lentil dish mejadara."

We reached out to Mimi's to see if they have an opening date in mind. Will update when/if we hear back.

The small space was previously home for eight months to the $1 pizza/BBQ combo of Wicked Wolfe BBQ.

Work begins on the incoming Mimi's Hummus on East 14th Street

EVG East 14th Street/IHOP Way Correspondent Pinch tells us that workers are now gutting the former Wicked Wolfe BBQ space here just west of Second Avenue.

Prior to the arrival of the construction crews, there was a sign in the window announcing that Mimi's Hummus has designs on the small space…

On May 1, Eater reported that the Ditmas Park-based Mimi's was expanding into Manhattan with locations at the Vanderbilt food hall near Grand Central and on East 14th Street.

Mimi's, which Eater says serves "some of the city's best hummus and shakshuka," will have an expanded menu here that includes "a few larger plates at dinner like lemon chicken meatballs, brisket, and the Middle Eastern rice and lentil dish mejadara."

And Mimi's will have company next door. As we first reported on April 20, a T-swirl crêpe shop is opening in the recently shuttered Subway (sandwich shop).

Lastly, not to fear, Pinch is keeping an eye on what happens to the iconic Wicked Wolfe BBQ signage. The $1 pizza/BBQ combo shop lasted about eight rather sad months in business.

The Wicked Wolfe BBQ of East 14th Street has closed

EVG regular Pinch tells us that Wicked Wolfe BBQ has officially closed on East 14th Street just west of Second Avenue… the place looked suspiciously closed of late… and now the for rent sign has arrived.

The mostly to-go place, which opened last April, sold $1 pizza and BBQ … from the former Joey Pepperoni sliceria.

Wicked Wolfe BBQ arrives on East 14th Street

Any EVG reader was surprised yesterday to see $1 pizza back at the former $1 slice joint Joey Pepperoni on East 14th Street…

Turns out there are new proprietors for the space just west of Second Avenue… Wicked Wolfe BBQ will sell BBQ (duh), sandwiches and pizza…

They aren't officially open yet … only for pizza. An employee said that they just installed the smoker, and were still working on it… they'll also be moving the Snapple machine off the sidewalk…
