Video: Cyclist snatches woman's phone on Avenue A; Citi Biker follows in pursuit

An EVG reader shared this Dashcam video with us from late yesterday afternoon around 5:30 … when a woman walking west on Seventh Street at Avenue A has her iPhone snatched by a cyclist (it's at the 24-second mark)… following in hot pursuit is a well-dressed man on a Citi Bike…

Sadly, we don't know the outcome… the woman is last seen stopping on A at East Fifth Street after running down the Avenue…

H/T Brian Cohen for passing along his friend's video… posted with permission…

Looking for where William Burroughs lived on the Bowery? There's an app for that now

West Village resident Christopher Otto has created a new app for iPhones that uses GPS to show nearby cultural locations in downtown Manhattan. It currently has almost 350 locations, with links to Wikipedia and YouTube to provide more extensive information than could be included in the app itself.

In some locations like "The Bunker" where Burroughs lived on Bowery, or Quentin Crisp's apartment, you can see the person themselves in the building talking about his or her life in archival video.

"I was inspired to make it after reading 'Low Life' by Luc Sante while staying in a historic building in the West Village and finding myself forgetting what NYC was like before places like Superdive came along," Otto said in an e-mail. "My hope is that someone shopping in SoHo might read about Gordon Matta-Clark, or discover La Monte Young, and be inspired to do something interesting."

The app is free, though it includes iAds and Otto gets a small percentage of the iTunes and Amazon sales.

The direct link to iTunes is here.

There's basic website up explaining the features.

Perhaps there's another app that creates Avenue C

EV Grieve reader (and blogger) Shawn Chittle notes the new MTA iPhone app for the East Village/Lower East Side ... As he points out, Avenue C is missing (sorry World Cuppers!) and Avenue D is apparently now subbing for the FDR...

In the comments, BabyDave points out the rather interesting new route for the Bowery....

iBargain!

Hi. I'm writing this post as I wait in line to buy the new iPhone...
KIDDING. Jeez.

Anyway, from a piece on "iPhoria" in the Post today:

Real-estate broker Micky Pekija Is offering a free iPhone to anyone who rents the four-bedroom Columbus Circle apartment he has listed for $5,990 per month.

"They like that I am giving something back in return," Pekija said. "It may only cost a few hundred dollars, but it is a very cool gadget that people get very excited about."
