A weed-smoke shop called Smoke House is in the works for the smallish retail space on Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street... previously part of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater's East Village outpost, UCBeast.
The new shop is nestled between Two Boots and O'Flaherty's, the newish gallery-performance space.
This arrival comes as New York State has ramped up cracking down on unlicensed cannabis shops in NYC.

Strange! The police have closed down at least a half dozen illegal shops between St. Marks and 14th St. along First Ave. In the last few days I watched and spoke to the police while they were raiding the one on the corner of 11th two days ago and the one on 10th yesterday. The one on 10th had already removed the dispensary sign before the raid. And the one between St. Marks and Ninth has a big sticker on the window by law enforcement along with a sign saying don't worry, we took the cat. Also, there's the same sign on the window of one that was on 7th between First and A.FINALLY, FINALLY!
Geeze, what a shame. For a split second was thinking Mighty Quinn replacement.
Legal or not?
How does this work, do you have to have a medical card/need for it, or can anyone walk in and buy some? I haven’t been following developments.
It's now recreationally legal—anyone (over 18) can walk in and buy
@simon you just walk in and buy, it's 100% legal for recreational use and purchase. would probably recommend going to a licensed store if you're new to all this though, just for your own peace of mind.
Wish I could of said best of luck but really is this all these kids can think of it's over done a dry with a smoke shop on every Street enough already

ridiculous, why would you open a totally unlicensed businessnand lose all your money when it's shut, this whole culture is so weird
All we need is another smokeshop...
I have no idea why these insane people are pumping money into these unlicensed smoke shops when they're clearly going to get shut down relatively quickly. And it's not as if these stores are doing very well - due to none of them seemingly knowing the first thing about markets or doing market research, they've saturated the market to the point where there's one or two of them on every block, and not one of them is doing a roaring trade. Seriously, I never even seen anyone in these places. One had a "grand opening" in my building months ago, and they still have the bunting up and yet I've never seen a single customer in there. Do these kids have no imagination whatsoever? Hey bozos - you can't ALL run successful weed stores. It's called the market.
I don’t understand why people prefer to seek out info like this by word of mouth. There’s loads of reputable and easy to find info about this online. It’s not as if states hide it from people when they change laws or set legal age ranges for this sort of thing.
