Apollo Bagels now with signage on 10th Street

Signage went up yesterday outside 242 E. 10th St. at First Avenue for Apollo Bagels

The business started as a pop-up in 2020 at the Williamsburg pizzeria Leo and debuted this past weekend in the East Village

For now, Apollo will continue with the three-day schedule — Friday-Sunday, 8 a.m. until sold out.

I stopped in there last Saturday just about 2 and they were closing. I had already gotten some lox, cream cheese and a bunch of groceries from the farmers market etc. I was soaked from the rain. I asked if I could just get two bagels and the young man said ask that guy and pointed to a guy in a t-shirt and hat. He asked me what I needed and I said two everything bagels as I had everything else. He instructed someone to get me the bagels and then introduced himself as Joey. We chatted about how I was following them on ev grieve and was looking forward to trying them. He handed me my bagels for free, thanked me for coming in despite the rain and suggested I come earlier because they are selling out. He could not have been nicer and if you like a chewy bagel with a hint of sourdough this place is for you. One thing to note is this location used to be a bar with a full liquor license and the Gelato place across the street a restaurant with a full liquor license and now they are no longer, so it shows that the only solution to vacant storefronts as the NYC Hospitality Alliance and some posters here would have you believe is not just another bar or restaurant.

But...it's a restaurant?

Early reviews are positive. I like a little tang so I'll check them out. But this is still a saturated bagel market, so we'll have to see what happens once the tiktokers are gone.

Pizza, bagels, coffee shops.... we have a million of 'em and I'll take one more over another smoke shop! These bagels look pretty spectacular.

Thanks for sharing your story 9:15 AM! It would have been miserable to walk home empty handed in that rain. It sounds like these folks have their hearts in the right place <3

stopped by at opening time on saturday. bagels were good, definitely more chewy than a regular bagel, with a hint of sourdough. i liked them, but they won't replace Tompkins for me!!

C'mon Sarah, that's just absurd. You either get my point and are being snarky or don't live here. I was clearly not referring to daytime businesses that do takeout and don't sell alcohol, but instead to one business model that relied almost entirely on the profits of people drinking alcohol and one whose menu and food quality were not good enough so they needed to rely more heavily on expensive beer, wine and cocktails. Yet they could not survive.

So many bagel places
It is cheap food which is great, or cheaper than other options, but such bad nutrition. Processed carb overload. At least it is fast too.

Have y'all noticed that being open just a few days each week is becoming popular with businesses? I noticed a restaurant that's open Thurs-Sun. The new New York, it seems.
