Signage is up at 209 E. 14th St. for Layers Bakeshop between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.
The bakery chain started in Lahore, the capital and largest city of the Pakistani province of Punjab. In 2022, Layers opened several locations on Long Island and has been expanding to Astoria, Williamsburg, and now here.
They offer a variety of baked items, including cakes, cupcakes and brownies, as well as homemade ice cream and sundaes.
And Layers marks the fourth cafe-bakery outfit to open around here in recent months.
The retail space was previously The Whale Tea shop.

This seems to be a regular "Western" bakery, which I have nothing against, but, given the solid bakery supply in the area, it would have been nice to have a different style.

Let's see.... East villagers will have a choice now, die from Cirrhosis of the liver from nonstop bar hopping or go out in a diabetic coma from having nothing to eat but cake.
Hey Grieve, there are actually FIVE new bakeries in the Upper East Village bakery district: Don't forget the Pastry Box on 12th (A/B), which kicked off the trend in late June!
Anyway, if I could choose any item for veganization from our new bakeries, it would be would be the cheesecake baklava from Oasis Café on Ave A. 🤤
