Signage alert: Burgerhead on 2nd Avenue

Signage for Burgerhead went up Monday on the NW corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street.

This will be the second Manhattan spot for the brand that sells burgers, chili dogs, fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, etc. (Menu here.)

A fast-casual restaurant, Balkan StrEAT, was in the works for the corner space. However, the owners closed their Sixth Avenue outpost and pivoted to the burger biz. (Burgerhead took over the former Balkan StrEAT space at 353 Sixth Ave.

This Second Avenue address was also home to a Starbucks until April 2019.

How quickly we forget.....Orchidia.

And for awhile after the Orchidia, it was Steve's ice cream—home of the mix-in.

Your article is from December 2024, and Burgerhead is taking forever to open. Now and again, my wife and I see activity on the premises but, so far, no sign of being even near opening. The most activity seems to be coming from the person continuously tagging the windows with graffiti. Seems like they're being specifically targeted.

Well, it's almost December 2025. We're still watching from across the street as Burgerhead's big, gaudy sign sends a fire-engine red glow through our windows, making 2nd Avenue a red-light district but, so far, offering nary a burger. Periodically, we see some activity going on inside, but the windows are still papered over. What the heck's going on?
