Dwayne Daley, 67, was allegedly caught caging more than 25 pigeons in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village at around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to the NYPD.He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor torturing, injuring, not feeding animals and violating parks and recreation laws, according to the NYPD. Daley is known to law enforcement for kidnapping the birds and selling them for target practice in his home state of Pennsylvania, police said.In February 2021, Daley was wanted for allegedly attacking a man who saw him poaching pigeons near Meeker and Union avenues in Brooklyn, according to court records.
In early April, witnesses spotted a man netting pigeons at the infamous Avenue A mucky tree pit near Sixth Street.

They should give that guy a medal and let him continue to net and cage those flying rats as they are nothing but a menace. They are disgusting creatures who do nothing but poop on everything. I only hope there are more people out there capturing and getting rid of those foul things. Good riddance!!!!
I suspect that the same person or people who net the pigeons are also routinely feeding them in the EV. Sometimes in the morning I see someone has been dumping bird seed near intersections, as if from a car window. This would make the pigeons gather in those spots and make them easier to net. As a side effect the pigeon population in the area (and nuisance) skyrockets. As another side effect, rats

Pigeons are doves, that is why they are so varied and beautiful. They (like all birds) are also tiny dinosaurs and as such will outlive humans and their dumb cars.

There is a well coordinated, well financed group dumping hundreds of pounds of bird food in very concentrated areas every single day. It is happening in isolated locations in various NYC neighborhoods but increasingly across the EV / LES. Building owners, businesses, non-profits, performance centers, schools and public parks are being taken over by huge swarms of pigeons. Just yesterday on Ave A and 5th many trash bags full of bread were dumped on the sidewalk. It costs money, endangers health - it’s a terrible situation. New Yorkers have to stand up to this. Start with a broom and sweep. Also contact CB3. Please!
