Sliders up next at 34 St. Mark’s Place

St. Mark's Burgers & Dogs has closed at 34 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly when it shut for good — the quick-serve shop (which opened in December 2024) was often dark during its posted business hours.

Anyway! A new burger venture is already in the works for the space. Whits, specializing in sliders, is coming soon.

You can follow them on Instagram for opening updates...

Is Whits by the same people as Whitman's?

Yeah I wondered. Seems like it's been closed since new year. Liked stopping in for a burger. Or a dog. So it goes.

I'd say it's a pretty high likelihood this is from the Whitman's folks. I see a lot of folks in Cello's pizza with Whitman's hats. 34 St. Marks is right next door to Cello's.

Hope this is an *additional* location, not a move.
We love the 9st spot!

I miss that sliders spot that was on St. Marks years back. They were pretty good!

back in the early 1990’s, there was Sassy Sliders on 1st av between 9th & 10th street on the west side of the avenue. That place was great. It was owned by “Two Food Guys…”

Never really understood sliders - the bun to meat ratio is just wrong, with way too much bun for the amount of meat. It ends up being just a carb bomb with some flavor from the meat and toppings. The meat should be the star of a burger, and the bun should play only a supporting role (literally). But that's just me.
