Two Perrys makes first appearance on Avenue C

Signage recently arrived for Two Perrys, a new cafe-restaurant in the works for 127 Avenue C at Eighth Street (thanks Robert Miner for the pics!) ...
We don't know too much yet about the new venture via proprietor Michael Perry III. He appeared before CB3's SLA committee in April

By day, the space will serve as a cafe offering breakfast and lunch ... with a bar-restaurant service in the evenings, according to the questionnaire on file at the CB3 website.

No word yet on an opening date.

Loverboy, specializing in pizza and slushy drinks, closed here during the pandemic after nearly three-plus in business.  Before Loverboy, the corner space was home to multiple establishments, a list that includes Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery," ... Life — Kitchen and Bar … which had taken over for Verso. Other restaurants here in the past nine years include Caffe Pepe Rosso and Caffe Cotto

Loverboy bringing pizza and cocktails to 8th and C

[EVG reader photo]

The new pizzeria/cocktail lounge is now up and running at the northwest corner of Avenue C and Eighth Street.

The place is called Loverboy, and is run by T.J. Lynch, who operates Mother’s Ruin on Spring Street between Elizabeth and Mott. (A place apparently known for "booze-filled slushies.")

Loverboy made PUNCH's list of "The Most Notable New Bars in America, Spring/Summer 2017." Per PUNCH: "Lynch expands his wildly successful formula at Mother’s Ruin east of Bowery. And who can argue with the addition of pizza? Expect his high-low style and love of frozen cocktails to be on full display."

Anyway, Loverboy is now open and serving drinks. Pizzas will arrive once Con Ed turns on the gas, according to East Village Eats.

As previously noted, this corner space has been home to Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery," ... Life — Kitchen and Bar … which had taken over for Verso. Other restaurants here in the past seven years include Caffe Pepe Rosso and Caffe Cotto.

Pizzeria proposed for the corner of Avenue C and East 8th Street

[EVG file photo]

In recent years, not even proposed restaurants have been able to make the space on the northwest corner of Avenue C and Eighth Street work.

This month, the proprietors behind the cocktail bar Mother's Ruin in Nolita will appear before CB3's SLA committee for a full liquor license for a proposed pizzeria.

According to public documents on the CB3 website, the space will feature 22 tables with 56 seats and a bar for 13. (The configuration also shows five sidewalk tables. The previous restaurant tenants here also had sidewalk cafes.) The proposed hours are noon to 2 a.m. (until 10 p.m. for the outdoor seating).

The documents include a sample menu...

In January, an applicant appeared before CB3 for a sushi restaurant. CB3's SLA committee would only approve a beer-wine license with a midnight closing time. The applicant was seeking full liquor with a 2 a.m. close. In addition, according to CB3 meeting notes, "this applicant has no experience operating or managing a licensed or similar business and has no developed plan or team to operate this business." So apparently the applicant decided to move on.

As previously noted, this corner space has been home to Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery," ... Life - Kitchen and Bar … which had taken over for Verso. Other restaurants here in the past seven years include Caffe Pepe Rosso and Caffe Cotto.

The SLA meeting is April 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the CB3 office, 59 E. Fourth St. between Second Avenue and the Bowery.

Sushi in the works for Avenue C and East 8th Street

The restaurant space on the northwest corner of Avenue C and Eighth Street has seen a variety of concepts come and go in recent years.

Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery," was the last venture to try this corner… which took over for the short-lived Life - Kitchen and Bar … which had taken over for Verso. Other restaurants here in the past seven years include Caffe Pepe Rosso and Caffe Cotto.

Now a group has plans to open a sushi restaurant in the space. Not much is known about the applicants, who will appear before CB3's SLA committee meeting on Jan. 11 for a new liquor license.

The questionnaire (PDF!) on file at the CB3 website ahead of the meeting shows a chef's table seating from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with outdoor seating available every day from noon to midnight. In addition, the proprietors have bar seating hours listed on Monday-Wednesday 4 p.m. to midnight, and noon to 4 a.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Here is a diagram of the still-unnamed restaurant that's with the application online...

East 8th Street and Avenue C, home to 5 restaurants in recent years, is now on the market

Back on Friday, EVG reader Peter from 8th St. noted some activity at the former restaurant at 127 Avenue C at East Eighth Street… where workers were clearing out the space…

There was also a new notice (dated Nov. 12) from the Marshal noting that the landlord (in this case, Croman/9300 Realty) had taken legal possession of the space…

The for rent signs arrived a little later… (the listing hasn't appeared online just yet)…

The space has been vacant now for a year. Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery," was the last concept to try this corner… which took over for the short-lived Life - Kitchen and Bar … which had taken over for Verso, perhaps best known for a topless diner encounter.

Other restaurants here in recent years include Caffe Pepe Rosso and Caffe Cotto.

And, as previously noted, the storefront once housed a bakery … which apparently Iggy Pop frequented for cake and strong coffee in the early 1990s…

The Marshal seizes Lumé, another restaurant that couldn't make East 8th Street and Avenue C work

The Marshal paid a visit yesterday to Lumé, the "Epicurean drinkery" on Avenue C at East Eighth Street. EVG regular Dave on 7th happened by when workers were changing the locks on the doors.

The restaurant had just been advertising for bartenders and waitstaff.

Lumé seemingly came out of nowhere this past spring, taking over for the short-lived Life - Kitchen and Bar, which had taken over Verso, perhaps best known for a topless diner encounter.

Anyway, it has been tough going on this corner when you factor in the previous restaurants — Caffe Pepe Rosso and later Caffe Cotto — in the past five or so years.

And once upon a time it was a bakery … which apparently Iggy Pop frequented for cake and strong coffee

Another bakery would be nice.
