Fowl play: An outpost for Portuguese grilled chicken on Avenue B

Frangos, a Portuguese grill, debuted back on Friday at 182 Avenue B between 11th Street and 12th Street.

Vinny & O shared these photos...

The restaurant's Instagram account has this description: "Home of the legendary flame grilled Peri Peri chicken."

Aside from a variety of grilled chicken options, the menu features a good number of salads, burgers and wraps.

Not sure on the alcohol situation here. The proprietors have not been before CB3 for a license. Their Instagram account shows several mocktails for now.

This space was previously Y Cafe, the low-key health-focused restaurant that closed here in March after eight years in business. Several readers said the Y Cafe owners decided against renewing the lease.

Recent ghost signage on Avenue B

A reader pointed out signage on Avenue B between 11th Street and 12th Street for the Little Bird Bakery and Coffeehouse. This is actually not the new tenant moving into the space, but the name of the business that had the space from June 2010 to January 2011.

Y Cafe eventually moved into the storefront at 182 Avenue B ... closing in March after nearly eight years of service.

Little Bird, a vegan cafe, was a nice spot but it only lasted those six months. Before that there was the short-lived Panache Cafe and Cafe de Nova.

The reader noted activity inside the space in recent weeks. The for-rent sign has also been removed.

Y Cafe turns previous tenant's sign into a planter

Y Cafe (formerly Wai? Cafe on First Avenue) is now open on Avenue B near 11th Street... This addressed previously belonged to the Little Bird, a vegan cafe.

In a cost-effective move, instead of replacing the old sign...

...the folks at Y Cafe simply turned it into a planter of sorts...

Perhaps this is only temporary. But it's always a better alternative than leaving the previous restaurant's sign/name in full view...

Wai? Cafe relocating to Avenue B

Last week, we noted that Wai? Cafe on First Avenue had closed. However, EV Grieve reader Melissa reports that Wai? is relocating to 182 Avenue B near 11th Street. (An outgoing message at Wai? confirms the move to Avenue B.) The new location is expected to open in late May or early June.

The Little Bird, the vegan cafe that was in the space before, closed in January.

Workers have been renovating the 182 space in recents weeks.
