Kobano has not been open lately on the Bowery

We've heard from a few readers about the status of Kobano, a Japanese-Brazilian restaurant at 299 Bowery between First Street and Houston.

The space has been dark lately, giving it that abandoned feel...
Google now lists the restaurant as "temporarily closed," although there is no mention of this on Kobano's website or Instagram.

Kobano opened in February after the owners decided to switch up concepts from Íxta, which served southern Mexican and Oaxacan dishes for two years.

Previously, in this rather large space, Daniel Boulud closed DBGB in August 2017 after an eight-year run.

Signage alert: Kobano on the Bowery

Signage is up now for Kobano at 299 Bowery between Houston and First Street.

The Japanese-Brazilian restaurant is set to debut on Feb. 13, per an Instagram announcement

As previously reported, the owners of Íxta, which served southern Mexican and Oaxacan dishes, decided to revamp the space after two-plus years in service.

You can find the Kobano website here.

Revamps: Íxta turning Japanese-Brazilian at 299 Bowery

After two-plus years, Íxta has closed for a revamp here at 299 Bowery between Houston and First Street.

The restaurant serving a menu of southern Mexican and Oaxacan dishes closed last week. The door signage explains that they will reopen next month at Kobano, a Japanese-Brazilian restaurant.
Previously at this location, Daniel Boulud closed DBGB in August 2017 after an eight-year run.

Íxta announces itself on the Bowery

Storefront signage is now up for Íxta at the long-vacant 299 Bowery between First Street and Houston.

Last August, CB3 OK'd a liquor license for restaurateur Akbarali Himani, whose credits include a Chickpea in Penn Station and NISI Mediterranean in Times Square.

A job listing for an executive chef here describes Íxta as a "trendy upscale Mexican restaurant." As previously noted, the space in the Avalon Bowery complex is quite large, with a capacity of 194 patrons, who would be treated to "live Mariachi performers," per the restaurant's questionnaire at CB3.

Daniel Boulud closed DBGB here in August 2017 after an eight-year run.
