Former Jennifer Way's Bakery space for rent

Jennifer's Way Bakery closed at the end of the summer here on 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. At the time, owner Jennifer Esposito, the Brooklyn-born actress, said she would be moving the organic, gluten-free bakery.

While there isn't any word of a new location, the old spot is now on the market as the for rent sign arrived last week.

The bakery opened in March 2013.

Jennifer Esposito's Jennifer's Way Bakery is moving from 10th Street; destination unknown

An EVG reader who lives on 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue shared this... Jennifer's Way Bakery is moving, per the sidewalk signage spotted yesterday... owner Jennifer Esposito, the Brooklyn-born actress (currently on "NCIS"), was selling off some items (stools, tables, etc.) from the small bakery...

She reduced her hours here in May due to an increase in online orders for the organic bakery that makes its products without gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar or peanuts, per store signage at the time.

The reader who lives nearby said that the bakery was closed last weekend and Saturday.

To date, there isn't any mention of the new location on the bakery's website or social media properties. The online bakery currently isn't taking any orders.

Esposito wrote about the situation on Facebook:

Only a handful thought I could even stay open for more than a few months, never 5 years. I am so very proud of not only what I managed to withstand here but so beyond thrilled how many of you I was able to help and feed safely. I celebrated birthdays, weddings and holidays with you and served your children their first safe cookie. My heart is full. However it's is time to move forward now. My lease on this magical little space is up and I must move on now. I am FAR from done with bringing you safe, reliable, TRUST WORTHY delicious food, it's just time to regroup ... stay tuned, I am not done.

The bakery opened in March 2013. Esposito was later reportedly sued by her investors, though she said in a tweet that the case was dismissed.

Her book, "Jennifer’s Way Kitchen," is set for release next month.

Jennifer's Way Bakery reduces store hours to service online orders

Jennifer's Way Bakery at 264 E. 10th St. between Avenue A and First Avenue has reduced hours now, as of Wednesday ... opening just on Friday through Sunday...

Another sign on the door points to an increase in online orders for the organic bakery that makes its products without gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar or peanuts...

Another Facebook post notes that the bakery is selling most of the vintage items in store. "Time for spring cleaning and giving the bakery a new look."

The bakery is owned by Jennifer Esposito, the Brooklyn-born actress (currently on "NCIS"), who was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2009. The bakery opened in March 2013.

Page Six reported yesterday that Jennifer Esposito "plans to leave town after her legal drama with her gluten-free Jennifer’s Way baking empire." The destination: Denmark!

The actress, who was diagnosed with celiac disease five years ago, opened Jennifer's Way Bakery on East 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue in 2013. She responded to the report (also picked up by Fox News) on Facebook...

She also posted photos and a video of herself at the bakery yesterday.

As for the lawsuit, here's what Esposito had to say about it via Twitter...

Report: Jennifer's Way Bakery involved in $43 million lawsuit

Actress Jennifer Esposito is being sued by her investors, including her soon-to-be-ex husband, over her gluten-free food empire, which includes the bakery on East 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue, the Post reports.

According to the Post, Esposito and investors Lawrence Wenner and David Drake got together in 2014 to expand the business with a commercial plant in Queens to bake and ship orders from her website. (The baked goods are made in-house on East 10th Street.)

Per the paper:

Wenner and Drake sank $250,000 each into the business and then loaned $1 million to the enterprise, court papers say.

Esposito was supposed to transfer ownership of the East Village bakery to the newly formed company, Jennifer’s Way Inc., which she failed to do, court papers allege.

The investors contend Esposito was difficult to work with, in one instance nixing the use of a corn-based ingredient because “she personally was allergic to corn, and not because it posed any sort of danger to those suffering from celiac disease.”

There are more sordid details in the article, including that Esposito was served with a restraining order against bad-mouthing her investors on social media.

Espositio's lawyer said the case was baseless and she was "misled by her investors, and has done nothing wrong to warrant a lawsuit."

She offers more details in a blog post from March 1:

It is with great sadness to say this but as you know me by now, my #1 goal was to always be transparent in my mission to create a safe place for us celiacs and allergy sufferers.

As founder and creator of Jennifer’s Way Bakery and its associated products and recipes, and as a person suffering from celiac disease, my mission was to always bring you the highest quality, the purest and the safest products I could possibly create. From my storefront bakery in Manhattan, I am able to ensure that my products were not only solely my inventions, but that they were also safe for celiac sufferers to consume.

Unfortunately, for the time being, the larger brand of Jennifer’s Way products, the products you purchase online, has sadly been taken out of my control. I will not and cannot get into the gory details at this juncture, but keeping with my brand’s connotation, I owe my loyal customers a duty to notify them of these concerns.

Please know that I am in the process of and will regain control of my products and when I do, I will be sure to report to you. For now, however, I cannot endorse something I have been pushed out of with a clear conscious

Jennifer’s Way Bakery in NYC (263 East 10th St) is still alive and kicking with my wonderful loyal staff continuing to bring you the safest product run by this celiac herself.

The gluten-free, dairy-free, refined-sugar free, soy-free, peanut-free, allergy-friendly, organic bakery opened on March 2, 2013.

The Post features Jennifer Esposito's East Village bakery today

The Post today has a feature on actress Jennifer Esposito's new "roll" (haha, Post) ... her gluten-free, dairy-free, refined-sugar-free, soy-free, peanut-free, allergy-friendly, organic bakery that opened on East 10th Street on March 2.

The piece touches on her 14-hour work days at Jennifer's Way Bakery and her battle with celiac disease... which led her to open the bakery...

And it's serious business here... to the article!

Rick Byrd, 56, a friend of the actress, who was recently manning the cash register, tells of how Esposito’s boyfriend, model Louis Dowler, recently came in with a sandwich from another shop and was made to leave, lest his lunch contaminate the space.

“We don’t even allow gluten on the premise,” says Byrd, who is severely gluten-intolerant himself. “It’s a safe zone.”

Report: Jennifer Esposito to star in reality pilot for E!

As you may know, actress Jennifer Esposito opened her gluten-free, dairy-free, refined-sugar-free, soy-free, peanut-free, allergy-friendly, organic bakery on East 10th Street on March 2.

Now, as Deadline Hollywood first reported late yesterday afternoon, the proprietor of Jennifer's Way Bakery will film a pilot for E!

Per Deadline: "[T]he pilot will chronicle Esposito’s duties running the place while juggling the other aspects of her life."

Esposito, who was diagnosed with Celiac disease five years ago, will also serve as the executive producer.

Also, per Deadline:

"The untitled project is a spinoff from the cable network’s upcoming docu-reality series 'Playing With Fire,' which premieres Sunday. Esposito is among those featured on the show, which follows the personal lives and careers of tastemakers and chefs inside New York’s culinary scene."

She would join the folks at Obscura Antiques & Oddities on Avenue A as East Village reality TV stars... (and, perhaps, Billy Leroy, now starring in "Baggage Battles.")

Actress Jennifer Esposito's Jennifer's Way Bakery opening soon on East 10th Street

Workers are putting the finishing touches on Jennifer's Way Bakery on East 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. (It's right next door to Quintessence.)

This will be the first store for Jennifer Esposito, the Brooklyn-born actress who was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2009. (Her acting credits include "Summer of Sam" and "Crash.")

She has said that she was booted from CBS' "Blue Bloods" because of a misunderstanding of her limitations due to her celiac disease diagnosis. She has been selling her gluten-free products online.

Here's more about the store in a blog post from Jan. 21:

I’m happy to say Jennifer’s Way Bakery is ALMOST here. A gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, soy free, peanut free, allergy friendly, organic bakery that will be a SAFE ZONE and the CELIAC STANDARD for gluten free baked goods. I’m going to also make it a center for information about this disease, and a place to find understanding and support. To say its been a TON of work would be an understatement.

Besides hand-picking every last detail, even sanding the refurbished wood in the store myself, I have spent days upon days researching the SAFEST, cleanest, purest, organic, non GMO, local ingredients I could find. I WILL NOT bake with anything less. DO you want to know why? Because as a celiac, a severe allergy ridden one, I have learned that whole, clean, HEALTHY foods is what my body needs to function. So I’ve used my own savings to make this dream spot happen not only for me but for so many like me.
