Mancora now open in new 1st Avenue home
[Reader-submitted photo]
Mancora made a pretty quick transition to its new location at 97 First Ave. ... last Monday we noted that the Peruvian restaurant was moving across Sixth Street to the Spicewala Bar Indian Cuisine space.
Anyway, Mancora is up and running again, as several EVG readers pointed out. (Has anyone been to the new spot?)
As previously reported, since Banjara moved in late 2013, the restaurants at No. 97 went through seven name changes/concepts.
Something called Ummburger had been vying for the now-former Mancora space at 99 First Ave. Haven't heard anything else about that project.

Mancora returning to 1st Avenue in new location
Last week, we reported that Mancora had closed... and workers had gutted the interior of the Peruvian restaurant here on Sixth Street and First Avenue.
However, over the weekend, signs arrived noting that Mancora was going to open across the street (H/T to EVG reader JP on 7th St.) ...
...and there are signs at Spicewala Bar Indian Cuisine with the Mancora message...
Mancora's arrival will likely stop the restaurant carousel that has been going on since Banjara moved to Second Avenue in 2013.
So after Banjara, Figaro Villaggio, an Italian bar-restaurant, opened in January 2014. They later changed the name to Figaro Cafe Bistro Bar & Grill and, by November 2014, gave up part of the space to Apna Masala. In March 2015, Figaro Cafe Bistro Bar & Grill changed its names/concepts to La Esquina Bar & Grill ... then the name evolved to La Esquina Burritos and Bar ... and eventually East Village Burritos & Bar. Then Spicewala Bar Indian Cuisine. And, soon, Mancora.

Mancora has apparently closed on 1st Avenue
[Photo Friday by Vinny & O]
The gates have been down at Mancora, the Peruvian restaurant on First Avenue at Sixth Street, for the past 10 days or so. Several EVG readers noted that workers have gutted the interior, leaving some speculation of a temporary closure for renovations.
There isn't any note to patrons about the closure, temporary or otherwise. The phone kicks into an automated message about the customer not haven't set up a voicemail box.
The Mancora space was expected to yield to a "fast casual" concept called Ummburger. No update on that venture at the moment.
A sample menu for Ummburger posted on the CB3 website this spring showed a variety of burgers, including a vegetarian option ... and a fried chicken sandwich called the Southern Ummfort.
Mancora first opened in March 2003.
