A scene outside Solas early Saturday morning

[Early Saturday morning]

Back in January, some fed-up residents on East Ninth Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue took to Vimeo to document the unruly behavior that they witnessed outside the bar/club Solas.

We hadn't heard much from the residents… until this past weekend.

Early Saturday morning around 3:30 there was another fight outside of Solas. I was awoken by the sounds of a few women screaming and the bouncers' voices, of which I know by heart at this point. I looked out my window and there was a small crowd gathered around someone flat on the sidewalk. The police and an ambulance showed up.

I didn't see the police take anyone into custody but they did tell various parties to leave the scene and go home. Too much alcohol and testosterone. Same shit different weekend. The guy on the sidewalk was eventually helped to the ambulance and was treated.

This altercation aside, the residents note some improvement here… since the videos, the residents can only recall 5-6 fights these past 10 or so months...

Fed-up residents launch 'Solas Gone Wild'

Residents of East 9th Street have taken to Vimeo hoping to get the nightclub Solas to do something about the chaotic behavior routinely taking place outside of the establishment. The new “Solas Gone Wild” channel features three videos shot Sunday morning at 1:15AM of a Solas patron fighting in front of the club and storming up and down the block. At one point the police arrive, which does little to calm the situation.

“This kind of stuff happens every weekend and we're sick of it,” said one of the channel's creators. “It's guys fighting each other, people stumbling drunk into traffic. It's not noise from people having a good time, it's alcohol-induced violence and it needs to stop.”

Calls to 311 and to the nightclub itself have been made but so far the calls have done little to curb the late-night antics, the creators claim. — written by EVG contributor Atomic

Reader report: Solas patrons turn sidewalk shed into after-hours hot spot

A few weeks ago, we received word that a woman was taken away in an ambulance from outside Solas, the bar/lounge on East 9th Street.

A reader now notes that some Solasgoers have turned the scaffolding at the nearby parking garage into an impromptu after-hours hot spot. Says the reader:

“When the Solas crowd outside congregates, the bouncer comes out and tells them to move along. They'll then form small groups on the stoops of the neighboring buildings and businesses.

Now they have descended upon the sidewalk shed next door where they continue to scream, fight with each other, block the traffic by getting in and out of taxis, and generally live up to every negative stereotype of the drunken 20-somethings who take over the East Village on the weekends. The group of about 50 people [pictured above] didn't leave the area until 5AM.”

Reader report: Woman on a stretcher outside Solas early Saturday morning

Per a reader early Saturday morning regarding Solas, the bar-lounge on East Ninth Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue...

"I heard some screaming coming from the street but I ignored it at first. It's utter chaos outside Solas on the weekends.

But the screaming got louder and more hysterical so I looked out the window and saw EMTs lifting some chick onto a stretcher. They took her away in an ambluance. This all took place around 1:40 AM"

The reader wasn't sure what transpired... though noted it didn't seem to bother many of the other Solas-goers...

We're not too familiar with Solas... So we took a look at what Yelp users thought. The latest review, 5 stars, is from a Queens resident who noted: "When I feel like dancing my face off and drinking like a fish, I come to Solas! Yes it gets really packed in the dance area and making your way over to the bar past the crowd is difficult but you get the club experience without having to pay cover or ridiculous $$$ for drinks. It's a win-win!"
