It takes a Village

Crews have been out the past two days/nights on Third Avenue and 11th Street and 12th Street (and elsewhere) filming a new NBC series called "The Village" ... which is set in — Brooklyn.

The above photo is from 12th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue tonight.



Per the NBC synopsis:

Welcome to The Village, an apartment building in Brooklyn that appears like any other from the outside — but is quite unique inside. The people who reside here have built a bonded family of friends and neighbors. Sarah's a nurse and single mom raising a creative teen; Gabe's a young law student, who just got a much older and unexpected roommate; Ava must secure the future of her young, U.S.-born son when ICE comes knocking; Nick's a veteran, who's just returned from war; and the heart and soul of the building, Ron and Patricia, have captivating tales all their own. These are the hopeful, heartwarming and challenging stories of life that prove family is everything, even if it's the one you make with the people around you.

Maybe these are just scenes where, say, Ron and Patricia are at a party on 12th Street and something captivating happens.

Crews were out this afternoon filming a scene for the new ABC crime drama "Deception" on Astor Place.

The campaign to save the TV series 'Uncle Buck' is underway on Avenue C

This flyer, spotted last evening on Avenue C at Eighth Street, is asking fans of "Uncle Buck" – based on the 1989 film starring John Candy — to sign a petition in an effort to bring the canceled ABC series with Mike Epps back for a second season.

News of that the show's demise was first reported last July.

The petition, also created last year, currently has 264 signatures.

Meanwhile, maybe ABC will bring back "Blood & Oil" starring Don Johnson.

Part of East 7th Street looking like Forever ago for TV shoot

Crews will be filming scenes for the new ABC series "Forever" on East Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C today.

Ahead of that, workers yesterday transformed part of the block into turn-of-the-century-looking storefronts. (Not the most recent turn of the century either, per Dave on 7th, who also took these photos.)

Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd), New York City's star medical examiner, has a secret. He does not just study the dead to solve criminal cases, he does it to solve the mystery that has eluded him for 200 years — the answer to his own inexplicable immortality.

This long life has given Henry remarkable observation skills which impresses his new partner, Detective Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza). First up! "Unforgettable," a CBS crime drama about something or another, filming on East Seventh Street and probably elsewhere…



Then! A new series called "Flesh and Bone" is filming where it says on the flyer …



And the plot painfully mirrors EVG's early days:

Claire, a talented but emotionally troubled dancer, joins a company in New York City, and soon finds herself immersed in the tough and often cutthroat world of professional ballet.

Except for the parts involving "Claire" and "talented" and "emotionally" and "dancer" and "professional" and "ballet."

TV guide: 'Smash' at Saxon + Parole; 'Elementary' on East Eighth Street

Let's see, crews from NBC's "Smash" will be all over the Bowery today...

...including a set inside Saxon + Parole at Bleecker...

...Meanwhile, the new CBS series "Elementary" (a modern-day Sherlock Holmes living in NYC) is filming on a few side streets between Avenue B and Avenue C ... and as Bobby Williams notes, crews are setting up for a scene at 337 E. Eighth St.

There are probably 5-6 other shoots around today that we're missing, so...

Death & Co., Jane's Sweet Buns part of print ad for new worst TV show ever made

We spotted this ad in this week's issue of New York magazine... it's for a new ABC series called "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23." Apparently the show is about "the hilariously unpredictable antics of Chloe... the ultimate party girl with a heart of tarnished gold."

We then follow along as "Chloe navigates gritty city life with her street-smart solutions to a variety of everyday issues."

And the ad includes a relatively random list of local spots, such as Death & Co., perfect if you "need to console a friend after a bad breakup (when said breakup happened because you hooked up with her boyfriend)."

The hijinks continue at Saxon + Parole on the Bowery... because you spent all your money on shoes, you can't afford rent...but you want to check out a new restaurant... Advice? "Only go out with finance types so you can enjoy a delicious meal at that new must-check-out restaurant compliments of Mr. Big Shot."

And Jane's Sweet Buns makes an appearance...

Not sure how ABC selected these places for inclusion in the print ad ... There is a notice reading "No celebrity endorsement implied." Probably a good thing.

TV pilot looking for 'hip, eclectic type loft or apartment' in an elevator building

Well, you can read the flyer there yourself spotted yesterday on Seventh Street near Avenue B... for a pilot called "Modern Love."

Per Vulture, the show "centers on the science editor at the New York Times (or a modified version thereof) who suddenly becomes the 'Modern Love' editor while his marriage is dissolving and he's raising a 15-year-old daughter." Per reports, "Sex and the City alumna" Jenny Bicks created and executive produced the pilot... Just think, some day your apartment could be part of a bus tour.

What celebrity will be having a 'Close Call' in the East Village?

Not familiar with that one... According to Bio.com:

'Gossip Girl' returns to the East Village, a headline that may score me some awesome SEO!

Well, I've pretty much stopped mentioning when TV shows and movies are filming around the East Village... It's pretty commonplace. Unless! It's a life-altering production, such as "The Smurfs 2: We Spit on Your Grave" and "Step Up 3D." And, "Gossip Girl," which will be filming on parts of Avenue A and Ninth Street, etc., on Friday.




The drama, popular among young adults, has an all-star cast that includes teen stars Willie Aames, Kristy MacNichol and Melissa Gilbert.

Careful, E, hell hath no fury like a "Gossip Girl" fan scorned.

"Downtown Girls," MTV's new reality show about a group of friends living and loving on the Lower East Side, debuts tonight on MTV. The Times was unkind to the show in its review. "Someone called Shallon is hung up on a younger guy who lives with his parents in Jersey (yup, Jersey). She asks rhetorical questions as she looks intently at her laptop."

After NYU, I had loans to pay off and rent to pay. It was all about raising funds, getting a roommate, and then getting your girlfriend to move in. It was three people in a small, converted two-bedroom in the East Village, but that's what we could afford.

"How to Make it in America" debuts Feb. 14

As you may recall from last fall... the new HBO series "How to Make it in America" has been filming all over the neighborhood... And now, posters are up advertising the show's debut on Feb. 14...



I don't have HBO, so you'll have to let me know how it is...

Film shoots are so commonplace, they're hardly worth noting. Still. "How to Make it in America" is filming today around Tompkins Square Park... and the premise of this series?




It's an HBO comedy from Mark Wahlberg's "Entourage" production team ... The plot "focuses on the attempts of twentysomethings Ben (Bryan Greenberg) and Cam (Victor Rasuk) to hustle their way through New York in pursuit of the American dream."

Hmmm.

BoweryBoogie notes the crew has been camping out on the LES as well.

The yunnie posturing that takes place Thursday through Sunday on the Bowery often seems like a cheesy melodrama worthy of the CW Televison Network....



...so might as well advertise the revamped "Melrose Place" here.

As season two of Bravo's guilty pleasure launches [tonight], housewife Jill Zarin warns, "You're gonna see some [expensive] toys come out, unfortunately. We filmed the show before the recession happened."

The recession that has put millions of New Yorkers out of work threatens to make New York's real housewives appear even more self-indulgent and childishly pampered than last season. Back then, they were merely cougars of conspicuous consumption, spending perversely amusing bundles on themselves. This season, when housewife Alex McCord and husband (some say honorary housewife) Simon van Kampen drop $8,000 on clothing at a Hamptons boutique, their extravagance will likely strike viewers as prodigal in the extreme.

Van Kampen, manager of Murray Hill's Hotel Chandler, hopes the economy doesn't turn off viewers to the cast's wasteful spending habits. "This is escapist television for a lot of people," he says. "I don't think there'll be much negative reaction. Honestly, I think there is less conspicuous consumption in season two."
