The 10 NYC Commandments, as written on a discarded mattress on Second Street between Avenue A and First Avenue...

1. There is only 1 God (Money)
2. Honor thy lease
3. Don't covet thy neighbor
4. Don't worship false presidents
5. Do not lie (except on dates)
6. Do not steal (except from work)
7. I am a fucking jealous God
8. Do not forsake NY
9. Sunday is a day of brunch
10. Do not kill your dream

Mattress Materialize

Mattress Materialize

Month ending, out they come,
Streets dotted with pale monoliths.
We walk among them as pagans,
Between their standing stones,
Magical meaning long forgotten,
no enlightenment to be revealed.
Swathed in plastic, sealing in,
Dreams, some lost, bitter tears,
Release, exhaustion, books half read.
Guarded by rumors of the uninvited,
Biting interlopers who have lost
the decency to leave when asked.
Suddenly, the mattresses are gone.
Pity, an equinox is almost here.

This free mattress has no bed bugs, however...

A reader shared this photo of a mattress on 11th Street this morning:

"Gratis — no bed bugs just cat piss."

Soon, the sidewalks might be free of discarded mattresses this evening

If this guy can just get a few more piled atop the van...to refurbish somewhere...

EVG Discarded Mattress Correspondent Derek Berg spotted this on East Fourth Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery early last evening… not quite sure what this electrical get-up is…

As with most things in life, there is likely a logical explanation.

Notes left on discarded mattresses are usually awesome

Generally speaking. Here's one on East Eighth Street...

Would you take this mattress home? Maybe after a movie and dinner?
