Now that it's New Year's Eve, let's prep for St. Patrick's Day

As seen yesterday at Target on 14th and A... still not close to the March 17 merch spread as once seen at the (RIP!) Kmart on Astor Place...

Friday's parting shot

Friday's opening shot (so to speak)

A look-in at McSorley's on Seventh Street around 8 a.m. on this St. Patrick's Day... we were told that some folks started lining up at 6 a.m.

March madness! Key Food continues to up its St. Patrick's Day game

Photos by Stacie Joy

O'Key Food is once again prepped for this coming March 17... with a display at the start of aisle 6 featuring items for dinner (corned beef and cabbage), lunch (spinach and artichoke quiche, potato and garlic pierogies), and breakfast (Guinness) ...
And look for the Irish soda bread and Hot Cross Buns near the front entrance...

Countdown to St. Patrick's Day at Key Food

Photos by Stacie Joy

St. Patrick's Day is fast approaching (Thursday!) ... and Key Food has you covered with not one but two displays here on Avenue A at Fourth Street.

As you enter the grocery — by the deli, sushi and cakes for any occasion — you have your Irish soda bread, Hot Cross Buns, etc.
And in the back... at the start of aisle 6... you have Guinness, more soda bread, cabbage, corned beef and Kerrygold butter. Not to mention pierogis and quiche (a new tradition courtesy of Key?) ...

A St. Patrick's Day moment at Mary O's

Mary O's, the 11-year-old Irish pub at 32 Avenue A between Second Street and Third Street, is a good spot for St. Patrick's Day... EVG contributor Stacie Joy spotted proprietor Mary O'Halloran in the kitchen prepping for the day...
... and a few MO fans outside...
Mary suggests calling ahead today for any pick-up orders: (212) 505-5610.

This post from January has more information about her Soda Bread Shop ... as well as the shepherd's pies that she makes for city agencies to share with residents in need.

It's March!

Which means this stuff has been up at the Kmart on Astor Place since Halloween! (JK! Have no idea when this arrived...)
Thanks to Edmund John Dunn for the pics.

Christmas is 3 weeks from today: Time to buy St. Patrick's Day gear at the Kmart on Astor Place!

Looks like there might be some Easter baskets up on the shelves too here at the Kmart on Astor Place... thanks to Lola Saénz for the photo...

March 17, 8:30 a.m., 15 E. 7th St.

As you may have noticed, today is St. Patrick's Day. As of 8:30 a.m., there wasn't a line [yet] for McSorley's over on Seventh Street. Everyone is at mass?

McSorley's opens at 11.

Saturday's parting shot

Kilts and CitiBikes... thanks to Janice Ellsworth for this photo outside Stillwater on Fourth Street near Second Avenue today...

March 17 and McSorley's

[Click on image to go big]

EVG reader Allen Semanco shared the above photo... showing the 7 a.m. St. Patrick's Day (Happy St. Patrick's Day BTW!) line for McSorley's Old Ale House on Seventh Street... (I think they opened today at 8?????)

Meanwhile!

Gregory and Teresa from McSorley's commissioned East Village-based Billy the Artist to create a poster for St. Patrick's Day...

And here's Billy at this favorite bar (McSorley's, if that wasn't clear)...

The holidays live on at the Astor Place Kmart

Kmart on Astor Place may be in a state of flux, downsizing from three floors to two... but it looks as if they won't be giving up on offering early opportunities to prep for the holidays.

Goggla spotted this St. Patrick's Day (St. Partick's" per the sign) display, complete with red plastic cups, Corona, green bow ties and other things that you'll find lying on the street come March 18.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from McSorley's

The line started forming around 7 a.m. for the 8 a.m. opening bell today at McSorley's ...

EVG line correspondent Steven shared these photos... perhaps the colder-than-usual temps for March 17 kept the line a little shorter than in previous years here on Seventh Street...

...and at 8 a.m. ...

The bar quickly filled up...

Meanwhile, at your all-new St. Patrick's Day HQ

Key Food going all out this year on Avenue A with this inspiring display, which includes, randomly or not, bags of Lay's potato chips.

Thanks to Stacie Joy for the photo.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

A reader spotted this today on Avenue C and East Second Street... While it seems a little cruel and careless to toss a tree like this, it also gives us a good idea for our next tree stand...

A St. Patrick's Day morning look at the line at McSorley's

On this St. Patrick's Day, the line for McSorley's on East Seventh Street "isn't too crazy" EVG line correspondent Steven noted... this was the back of the line right at 8 a.m., when the bar was opening for the (St. Patrick's) day...

Not even to Cooper Square. Yet!

This Valentine's Day, start thinking about what you're going to do on St. Patrick's Day

One idea courtesy of Planet Rose on Avenue A between East 13th Street and East 14th Street: Drink green beer and sing Irish drinking songs.

Just a few shopping days left
