Today, the United States reached 400,000 deaths from COVID-19, which nearly equals the number of Americans killed in World War II, 
numbers multiple media outlets cited. 
Someone marked this grim milestone with a candle this evening on Ninth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

Thank you to whoever placed this humble, touching tribute. Know that by doing so, you have expressed more empathy and love for the lost than that thankfully-departing piece of (insert poop emoji here) who has befouled the White House for the last four years.
