Radio daze: This 1941 Zenith — featuring microstatic FM reception — needs a home

Photos by Stacie Joy

A building super rescued this Zenith Radio Corp. 1941 Model 10-H-573 from a basement on Avenue C.

It still works, and receives broadcast AM, "microstatic FM reception," and two shortwave bands all in an attractive spinet cabinet. But there's a but: it "smokes when you turn it on." (Who doesn't tbh?)

Take a look at this beauty ... and imagine cranking up the Glenn Miller...
It's currently sitting in a bar on Avenue C while looking for a new home... drop us a line if you have a (serious) interest...

P.S.

Found this...

I remember my parents had one of those Zenieth tv’s made of wood, looked liked a dresser. One sode had storage, the middle was the tv and the right side was a record player. Took up an entire wall and it was heavy.

I have an amplifier repair shop on 8th between C and D called Pete’s Amp Repair, petesamprepair.com.I’m interested in taking this. Let me know how to contact the super at the building to pick up.

We had a huge Magnavox console in our house. Right side was a fancy radio & the left side was a pull-out drawer turntable. It's also how I learned how to remove the tubes, take them to the tester in the hardware store & buy a replacement.

Honestly I would, but don't need another one...

That’s just the sound system I need for my Betamax.

I think it is so thoughtful that the super is trying to find someone who will appreciate it!!!

That was my radio, I had to put it on the street when i was kicked out of my apartment after 20 years on E.8th St in 2014. It still worked by then when I put it out. I'm glad someone grabbed it and saved it, it's very cool.
