The LLC listed is affiliated with hospitality vet Curt Huegel, whose portfolio includes concepts such as Bill's Townhouse, Campagnola, Printers Alley and, closer to home, Jackdaw on Second Avenue at 13th Street.
Huegel appeared before Community Board 3 in June 2022 and received approval for the unnamed establishment. There was some debate over closing time, and the committee wouldn't approve a 4 a.m. close (midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends). Huegel didn't respond to our previous request for comment about what's in store for this space.
Dallas BBQ closed this past December after anchoring the corner since the mid-1980s. Staff said the building's landlord would not renew the chainlet's lease.

The community board's recommendation is only advisory and bar owners can go right to the state liquor authority.
Love Jack Daw, always a loud good time there. Good cocktails and food is decent. Younger crowd here and everyone here is very friendly.
The age of mom & pop shops is long lost. Now we just have these rich people opening endless locations.
The age of "mom and pop" is not lost, it's just in the past.
As a reminder, this replaces a restaurant chain. It may not be mom & pop, but it's closer to one than Dallas BBQ....

sometimes our "loud good time" is torture to people who live by these establishments Huegel showed up to the zoom only CB3/SLA committee with his kid for the extra cute it was a joke of a meeting Kurt Huegel at least told someone on his staff to turn down the LOUD speaker jackdaw had set up for over a year when someone live streamed the speaker blasting music oi vey, well maybe he's going to go in another direction and be a good neighbor this time and keep the Loud good time INDOORS in a properly sound dampened room
Mom and pop shops are in the rearview mirror sadly. As the city and world changes before us, so does the nature of retail storefronts, dining, shopping, etc, not to mention how we evolve as New Yorkers. Whether you like something or not, the only solution is to adapt, and keep moving. Hope this is a cute spot when all is said and done.
This will be another booze-fueled party space—-nothing to serve the community, only more diminishing of the areas quality of life…from an entrepreneur grubbing for cash who couldn’t care less about us who live here.
