Day 1 of the Tompkins Square Park riot reunion shows

Photos by Stacie Joy

Day 1 of the free shows commemorating the 37th anniversary of the Tompkins Square Park police riot of Aug. 6, 1988,  got off to an epic start yesterday with an — shall we say? — energetic crowd.

Let's take a look ... in the crowd and from the stage...
The set from Dollhouse was a highlight of the afternoon ...
Day 2 starts this afternoon with music expected at 2 p.m.

Not my cuppa tea but it looks like THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT! Glad to see happy faces enjoying music in our park. Come through, next gen!

From what I can deduce, there are apparently a dozen or so of people that were actually at the original riot. To quote the late, great Joe Strummer, "I want a riot of my own" or is it "Should I stay or should I go".

I was at the original riot. At least there were people who cared about Housing , Police Brutality , Control of Public Space and today there are many Trump issues people are fighting about all over the country. Looks to me like nobody here has a clue about our history and activism.

I was at the original riot too and there are plenty of people here who care about the history and are very active in their activism....that is why this concert is happened. All the issues you brought up are being addressed by the people living in the neighborhood....I guess if you still lived here...you would know this.
