Convive Wine & Spirits has opened for business at 196 Avenue A between 12th Street and 13th Street.

The store's Instagram account notes this: "National wine & spirits retailer located in East Village of New York. We pride ourselves on our customer service, our selection and our many opinions."

Former wine and liquor store to become a wine store on Avenue A

The plywood tumor arrived late last week at 196 Avenue A between 12th Street and 13th Street.

The DOB signage shows a storefront rendering...

... the sign on the door here shows a business named Convive...

We found a job listing for the incoming shop that offered a few more details about the business:

Convive is a new retail store in the East Village of New York City that believes the process of buying wine should be easy and enjoyable. We build strong relationships with clients because we enjoy engaging with them: we create and seek out shared experiences. Additionally, we provide our clients with excellent customers services, rare/allocated wines and vast expertise.

The previous tenant here, Avenue A Wine & Liquor, closed about this time last year.

Late last year, Dalan Management and real-estate investing firm Avenue Realty Capital bought 194-196 Avenue A and 503-505 East 12th Street for $16.8 million.

Avenue A Wine & Liquor will remain a liquor store

Avenue A Wine & Liquor at 196 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street closed back in August.

The 900-square foot space had been on the market for $10,500 a month.

Looks like there's a taker for the space... the State Liquor Authority (SLA) notice in the front window notes that another on-premises liquor store is on the way in...

The application is pending with the SLA.

[EVG photo from August]

The shop at 196 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street closed back in August. (We never did hear a reason for the closure.)

And now the space is for rent. Here's the listing via LoopNet:

A Great retail space located in the heart of the East Village just off the corner of 12th Street. The space offers fantastic frontage of about18' with two display windows, 10' ceilings and nice open space. There is about 400 sf of space in the basement. Space can be vented for food use through the rear. All uses are considered.

This is a very hot area of the East Village with great restaurants, nightlife, retail and residential at the intersection.

The monthly asking rent for the 900-square foot space is $10,500.

Avenue A Wine & Liquor has closed

The shop at 196 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street is now closed.

We're not sure exactly when they shut down. A call to the shop reveals a disconnected number.

There had been some difficulties in the past. The Marshal seized the storefront in February 2012.

[UPDATED: Store back open] Marshal seizes Avenue A Wine & Liquor

Last night, a reader noted that the Marshal had closed Avenue A Wine & Liquor between 12th Street and 13th Street... The paperwork is on the front door...

Updated 2:01 p.m.
EV Grieve reader dwg says that the store is back open this afternoon.

Last month, the Marshal seized Furry Land Pet Supplies on the other side of Avenue A. That storefront is now for rent.
