[UPDATED: Store back open] Marshal seizes Avenue A Wine & Liquor

Last night, a reader noted that the Marshal had closed Avenue A Wine & Liquor between 12th Street and 13th Street... The paperwork is on the front door...

Updated 2:01 p.m.
EV Grieve reader dwg says that the store is back open this afternoon.

Last month, the Marshal seized Furry Land Pet Supplies on the other side of Avenue A. That storefront is now for rent.

Anybody know what happened? Behind in rent? Sales to minors?

I worry about that poor cat that lived at Furry Land. I hope someone took it in. Does anyone know?

I hope everything works out. The Asian guy that works there has always been so nice to customers, and helpful to me.

This is weird. The liquor store guys never seemed anything but straight and narrow. That entire side of the block is going to be demolished, I'll bet. It has that look.

Something is also up at 211 Avenue A (Shaoul/Westbrook building). For weeks now there has been major work being done to upgrade the interiors (entry, hallways, lighting), but why? Surely not for the tenants, most of whom at this point live there 6-12 months tops, the rest are the rent-stabilized wastrels Shaoul can't wait to give das boot.

All the Shaoul buildings are getting a paint job. It appears that there was a bunch of desert storm paint leftover now that the Iraq war is over, and he bought it up. Also, very artistic chair rails up and down the stairs. Yet the front doors never lock properly.
