For the remaining month of the Basquiat x Warhol exhibit at the Brant Foundation, tickets are 50% off every Wednesday from 2-6 p.m.

As previously noted about the show at 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue... 

On view from Nov. 1, 2023, through Jan. 7, 2024, this is the first time the collaboration has been the subject of a major New York exhibition since Andy Warhol & Jean-Michel Basquiat at Gagosian Gallery in 1997. The exhibition is traveling from Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and has benefited from the collaboration between the two institutions.

The Brant Foundation's first show here in the spring of 2019 featured work by Basquiat — some 70 works collectively valued at $1 billion. A career-spanning Warhol collection was here back in the spring.

Tickets for the latest show at the Brant Foundation, Basquiat x Warhol, are now on sale. 

Here's what to expect from the space at 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue... via the EVG inbox... 

The Brant Foundation is pleased to present Basquiat x Warhol at the Foundation's East Village location, curated by Dr. Dieter Buchhart and Peter M. Brant in collaboration with Dr. Anna Karina Hofbauer. On view from Nov. 1, 2023, through Jan. 7, 2024, this is the first time the collaboration has been the subject of a major New York exhibition since Andy Warhol & Jean-Michel Basquiat at Gagosian Gallery in 1997. Last week to see Warhol at the Brant Foundation on 6th Street

The career-spanning exhibit of 100-plus works by Andy Warhol closes next Sunday, July 30, at the Brant Foundation, 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue. 

And they've been running ticket deals of late too (per an email from the Foundation): 

• Warhol Wednesdays 50% off tickets every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. 
• Every Thursday $5 tickets are now available for ALL Thursday time slots! 

Otherwise, tickets are $20, $15 for East Village residents. (Proof of residency includes a punchcard to Funkiberry).

I saw Andy Warhol at the Brant Foundation

The career-spanning exhibit of 100-plus works by Andy Warhol has been on display at the Brant Foundation, 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue, since May 10... and it runs through July 30.

As a reminder about the show:

... the survey spans the entirety of Warhol's illustrious career, from his early drawings and intimate Polaroids to instantly recognizable silkscreens and sculptures. "Thirty Are Better Than One" pulls in large part from the Brant Collections, which includes an expansive and coherent selection of Warhol's work. It is curated by Peter M. Brant, founder of The Brant Foundation and an early patron, collaborator, and close friend of the artist.

Tickets for the show are $20 ... there are discounts for students and folks 65-plus ... and tickets for East Village residents are $15. (Proof of residency includes naming three of Allen Ginsberg's EV apartment addresses.) And just announced: Tickets between 4:30-5:30 on Thursdays are $5. Details here.

Exhibit hours: Wednesday-Friday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m. close Saturday and Sunday.

The Brant Foundation debuts its next show, Julian Schnabel's 'Self-Portraits of Others'

Starting tomorrow, the Brant Foundation debuts its next show, "Self-Portraits of Others," a solo exhibition of new works by Julian Schnabel. 

Per the Brant website:

Created between 2018 – 2020, this series explores the evolution of Schnabel's artistic practice while making "At Eternity's Gate," a film about the life of Vincent van Gogh. The exhibition features 25 plate paintings that examine the theme of portraiture throughout art history.

Some details... the exhibit is open to visitors, free of charge. Advance tickets will not be required and walk-ins are welcome during open hours:

Wednesday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Thursday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Friday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Proof of a COVID-19 vaccination is required to enter.

"Self-Portraits of Others," up through December, is the third exhibition to be held at the Brant Foundation 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Brant had said the space would host two exhibitions open to the public each year.

In case you missed the Brant Foundations's Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit last year... the currently-closed space on Sixth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue is now offering a 360 VR tour of the show as seen in the four-level space owned by Peter M. Brant.

The exhibit, open to the public for two-plus months, featured some 70 works collectively valued at $1 billion. You can start exploring at this link.

We'll always have the Mars Bar

The Brant Foundation, which has a state-of-the-art security system over on Sixth Street, put up some low-tech plywood this past week... as other properties did around the neighborhood ...



And the first message to arrive on the plywood (on the Seventh Street side between Avenue A and First Avenue): "I miss Mars Bar" with a frowny face...



Mars Bar closed on July 18, 2011, according to the tally marks on our wall.
