Thursday's parting shot (aka June 15)

A reader shared this photo from Cooper Square today... a mere six months from Christmas... or to next the Christmas season.

Monday's parting shot (aka June 5)

EVG reader roflo shared this photo today from Fourth Street between Avenue C and Avenue D... where there was a stash of Christmas trees discarded on the sidewalk.

Per Roflo: "Maybe 10 in all, some still with stands. No idea what kind of Christmas time capsule this was… but it smells fantastic, like Christmas in June."

EVG reader Garth shares this discovery from last evening ... a mostly concealed Christmas-tree-in-June-undercover-of-the-night discard from First Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery.

Why is the SE corner of 2nd Avenue and 5th Street a dumping ground for artificial Christmas trees?

An important question! And one that we don't have the answer to at the moment.

For starters, this pile, now slightly less organized, appears to be the same batch of artificial Christmas trees that Carol from East 5th Street spotted back on Friday.

This is on the curb (bike lane) outside the new location of Nai Tapas Bar at 84 Second Ave. and Sushi by M at 500 E. Fifth St.

Why did someone have 10 or so fake trees in their possession? Why not simply put them in storage until it's time to decorate for Christmas this coming July 4 weekend?

OK! So they are artificial... why discard them now when you need to put them up again in early August?

Just 6.03 months until Dec. 25... this one definitely could have made it until then... unless it's new for this Dec. 25, and it fell off the back of a truck or the roof of a car or something and landed here on 13th Street and Second Avenue.

Anyway! Thanks to Hudson for the discovery.

The whole summer lies ahead of us... yet someone on 10th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B thought it was a good time to toss the Christmas tree...

Tranquil June Sunday ruined by sight of Santa hats

Oh, the day wasn't ruined! Just a reminder that it's just six more months to SantaCon!

EVG reader Susan spotted this tonight on East Fifth Street... we aren't disclosing the cross Avenues because we are heading over now to claim it for ourselves — plenty of green left on it for December!

In time for a Star Spangled 4th of July Christmas!

Well! A tipster passes along this well-maintained Christmas-holiday tree spotted yesterday on Second Avenue and East Sixth Street... with some smartphone proof for Authentication purposes...

... and via OlympiasEpiriot ... the beauty made it through the night...

Looks like this is all legit in our estimation, though it's not ultimately up to us. Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS), is currently in the transit zone of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport for unknown reasons.

And thanks to EVG reader Steve for this shot too...

How soon before it rolls into the bus lane?

East 6th Street embracing Christmas in June

Last Friday, EVG reader OlympiasEpiriot spotted a holiday Christmas Tree plopped by the trash ... waiting to spend eternity next to a Papa John's box.

However! EVG reader Phil notes that someone plucked the tree from the trash between Avenue A and Avenue B ...

...where it will compete with the Tree Chair and the bear outside Josie's as the block's top attraction...

And we're back. EVG reader OlympiasEpiriot spotted this beauty last evening on East Sixth Street. While there isn't anything to date the photo, we happened to see it ourselves, which means we get 90 percent of the prize money, all things being equal. We would forward this to Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS), though there isn't Internet access where he is seeking asylum.

Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS), sent his approval via an intern while waiting to board an Airbus A320 Prestige in Zurich.

Wow, and one day after the ICTTS became the ICTTSS. Goggla checks in rather tentatively this evening. "I'm assuming someone else already submitted this as there was an am New York conveniently left nearby."

No! So she made this discovery on Second Avenue at Seventh Street. "Real trees — I touched them," she said. "I have a closer shot of the dated paper as well."

Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS) had no immediate reaction.

Goggla sent along some other photos of the tree ...

Jeremiah Moss spotted this one yesterday on Sixth Street near Second Avenue. Per Jeremiah: "I thought the string of lights and the broken ornaments gave it an extra poignancy. Not to mention the teen tweeter."

Indeed!

There was no immediate comment from Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring (ICTTS). Horse racing fans spotted him yesterday tearing up tickets for triple boxes of Master of Hounds, Prime Cut and Isn't He Perfect at the Belmont Stakes.

East Village artist (and EV Grieve commenter) VH McKenzie came across this today on East 10th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A ...

A little thirsty looking... And how about some verification? She did have a Duane Reade receipt handy...

Gruber MacDougal, chief spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring (ICTTS), is at the opening of the new Relais & Châteaux hotel, Villa Clarisse, in Saint Martin de Ré and unavailable for comment.
