Sally Beauty is now open on 14th Street

Sally Beauty opened its doors Saturday at 524 E. 14th St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

EVG reader Michael Paul shared a few photos ...

As previously noted, this is in one of the retail spaces of the Extell-developed residential complex EVGB.

Per the brand's website: "Sally Beauty is the world's largest retailer of salon-quality hair color, hair care, nails, salon, and beauty supplies."

The global chain started with a shop in New Orleans in 1964.

Sally Beauty will join next-door neighbor Bright Horizons, the nationwide child-care provider.

Sally Beauty coming to 14th Street

Signage is up for Sally Beauty, the new retail tenant coming to 524 E. 14th St. between Avenue A and Avenue B...

This is in one of the retail spaces of the Extell-developed residential complex called EVGB (the East! Village's! Greatest! Building!).

Per the brand's website: "Sally Beauty is the world's largest retailer of salon-quality hair color, hair care, nails, salon, and beauty supplies."

The global chain started with a single shop in New Orleans in 1964.

Sally Beauty will join next-door neighbor Bright Horizons, the nationwide child-care provider.

There's still one more storefront for lease at No. 524. There's also retail space in the other part of this development at 500 E. 14th St., adjacent to where Target opened in EVGB's corner spot at Avenue A in the summer of 2018...

Bright Horizons signage arrives at EVGB on 14th Street

As noted late last month, Bright Horizons, one of the country's largest child-care providers, is opening at 524 E. 14th St. in the retail spaces at EVGB.

EVG reader Brian Carroll notes that the BH signage arrived back on Friday here at the newish residential complex between Avenue A and Avenue B.

This is the first retail tenant for No. 524. There's still another space available right next door. The day-care center joins Target, which opened in EVGB's corner spot at Avenue A (500 E. 14th St.) last summer.

Workers are setting up for a sidewalk extravaganza outside the just-opened Target store on 14th Street and Avenue A... which includes a replica CBGB storefront — called TRGT...

A few readers have already chimed in about this via email (one with a subject line LOL) ... early, unscientific consensus is that this storefront homage is wholly unnecessary.

Updated 2:30 p.m.

Brooklyn Vegan paid a visit to the faux storefronts ... erected just for today as part of the Target's official grand opening.

Most notably, this includes an homage to CBGB, with “TRGT” in the old Bowery punk venue’s classic font (with “BANDS” in smaller font right below it), and display windows sporting TRGT t-shirts, “rock on” foam hands, and poster that said “The Resistance.” You couldn’t actually buy that stuff from the stand but, wink wink, they did have “bands” in the form of free boxes Band-Aids and exercise bands with the Target logo on them. Right next to the TRGT was a little stage with a “Battle of the Bands” banner and an oversized novelty Target bass guitar for selfie-ing. I did not enquire about the bathrooms.

Target opens ahead of schedule on 14th Street and Avenue A

Oh! Target had targeted (haha) July 21 for their Grand Opening on 14th Street and Avenue A ... in the corner space of Extell Development's EVGB — the "East Village's Greatest Building."

But! They actually opened their doors to their small-format store this morning.

EVG reader Greg Masters noticed this ... and was one of the first customers in the space.

Insta-reaction:

It’s a nice, clean two-level store with escalators and friendly employees. Well stocked with a bit of everything – stationery, hardware, clothes, household goods, towels and sheets, beauty supplies, paper products, appliances, including a 32” Sanyo smart TV for $169, food.

Beer section was a bit of a disappointment: just Bud, Yuengling, Corona, Pabst, no microbrews (tip: for a tastier selection, see Martin Johnson at Westside Market on 3rd Avenue between 11th Street 12th Street). Easy self-checkout or cashiers await.

And photos of what's in stock...

... and the food area (which is in the back on the main level)...

... and here's the East Village Mural at check-out...

Target sets July 21 opening date on 14th Street and Avenue A

Target has gotten specific with its "July 2018" opening date. The small-format store on 14th Street and Avenue A will debut on July 21, the company announced yesterday. (H/T Curbed!)

As reported last summer, this Target will take up two levels, selling men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, food (with grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, beverages), health and beauty items, and electronics.

The Target is the retail centerpiece (for now!) at EVGB ("East Village's Greatest Building!!!"), the nickname that Extell Development bestowed upon this retail-residential complex

Officials also said that the EV Target will employ 110 people.

Meanwhile, Target also announced that they're opening a similar small-format store — not too far away — on Second Avenue and 29th Street in Kips Bay Court next year...

By 2019, Target will reportedly have eight outposts in Manhattan.

Time to rent at EVGB, where studios ('lofts') start at $3,695

Extell Development's EVGB — the "East Village's Greatest Building" — is now renting at 510 E. 14th St. and Avenue A.

The listings went live on Monday, as Curbed first noted.

In total, there are 110 market-rate rentals here. And "market rate" is apparently $3,695 for a large studio (called "lofts" at the EVGB website). The largest units, with three bedrooms, are asking $12,425.

Here's the description of a two-bedroom unit ($7,455) via Streeteasy:

Make yourself at home in this north facing split two bedroom, two bathroom residence. 412 features generous living space, multiple walk-in closets, and an in-unit Bosch washer/dryer. for entertaining and relaxing. The huge open kitchen is outfitted with Miele and Bosch appliances, Cosentino Silestone Quartz countertops and backsplash, and unique wood and glass cabinets with gunmetal pulls. The four-fixture master bathroom includes a walk-in shower with blackened steel and fluted glass door and double vanity. Both bathrooms feature Porcelanosa tile and Kohler and Wetstyle fixtures. This apartment is finished with hardwood white oak flooring.

Each unit also includes an Alexa home interface for easy Alexa-ing. ("Alexa, how much is $12,425 divided by eight?")

Here's a view of the back of the building, showing the various balconies and the garden units...

Building amenities include an indoor saltwater pool, a bi-level fitness center, a children’s playroom, and a 19,000-square-foot roof deck with bocce, a putting green, a yoga lawn, a wet bar, fire pits and more things to perhaps inspire 13th Street residents who live behind here to call 311.

As you can see, the EVGB site is working hard to appeal to would-be renters... (The "Mmm ... carbs" cartoon cupcake, like)...

EVGB has an Instragram account too... the first one is a puzzler: "East Village will have you Going Back for more again, and again, and again...donuts are just the beginning of what the vibrant neighborhood has to offer."

Anyway!

Move ins at EVGB start in April.

And as previously reported, part of the retail space in this building will house the small-format Target store. Which someone already tagged.

Extell's other new building on the block toward Avenue B is currently accepting applications for middle-income units.

The for-real Target signage has arrived at EVGB

A tipster shared the above photo from Friday at 500 E. 14th St. at Avenue A ... the wraparound Target signage has arrived on the corner space (Previously just a small sign marked the location for construction workers.)

Now, though!

As reported last summer, the small-format Target will cover two levels here, selling men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, food (with grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, beverages), health and beauty and electronics. Etc.

The East Village Target has an expected July opening date.

Oh, and about EVGB. That's short for "East Village's Greatest Building," the nickname that Extell Development bestowed upon this retail-residential complex.

Here then is EVGB on 14th Street

Extell's two new 7-story buildings on 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B have a name — EVGB.

That's short for "East Village's Greatest Building."

The EVGB branding, with a random "go big" tossed in, arrived on the two retail-residential developments — 500 E. 14th St. and 524 E. 14th St. — back on Monday, as these photos via an EVG (not EVGB!) reader show.

To date, only the corner space at No. 500 at Avenue A has been taken — that will be the small-format Target store.

Newmark Knight Frank has the retail listings... there's one 14,509 square-foot space adjacent to the incoming Target for rent. (Negotiable rate!) At No. 524 a few doors to the east, there are two retail spaces encompassing 14,331 square feet.

EVGB's residential amenities include a fitness center, children’s play room, an indoor pool and steam room. The rentals have yet to hit the market. Soon though! The application process is underway for 50 middle-income units at No. 524.

Extell's EVGBs replaced a nearly block-long row of single-level structures that didn't have an acronym, businesses including Bargain Bazaar/Express, Petland, Rite Aid and the Blarney Cove.
