[Updated] Report: Woman struck and killed by SUV this morning on 3rd Avenue and St. Mark's Place

An SUV struck and killed a woman this morning at 6:30 on Third Avenue near St. Mark's Place, according to published reports.

The Post named the victim as 47-year-old Lisa Julian, who was attempting to cross the Avenue from west to east.

The driver of the Ford Explorer works for a courier delivering newspapers and remained on the scene. He has not been charged in the accident collision.

Updated 3 p.m.

The Post has more details about Julian, describing her as a "punk rocker." The driver of the SUV also reportedly told police that she was walking against the light and that she didn't seem to be "paying attention."

Updated 4:45 p.m.

DNAinfo says that Julian lived on East Seventh Street and Avenue D.

Julian, who friends called Spike, was known around the neighborhood as "easy-going" with a punk rock flare.

"She used to wear spiky things and punk-rock stuff, spikes in her nose, spikes in her boots, spikes in her hair," her neighbor David Sosa said. "I would go to Tompkins Square Park and would see her around the music. She would roll on the floor and jump up and down."

And several people have pointed out the fact that the driver crashed into a storefront with an awning reading "eyes examined."

Updated March 3

A witness told 1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten that the vehicle was driving fast when it crashed through the front window. "He was driving extremely, extremely fast," Richard Ciero said.

The impact was so loud that a nearby store owner came outside thinking that a bomb had gone off.

And an EVG reader left this comment:

It was my daughter in the back of the cab. She was on her way to the airport. She has severe whiplash. Very grateful her injuries were not worse.

EVG reader MP provides the photos and narrative from this early-morning accident on Second Avenue at East Ninth Street.

"Was awoken at exactly 4.30 am by what sounded like an explosion... But no, just a truck rolling down 2nd Avenue, which apparently had swerved trying to avoid hitting a car that ran the light going west on 9th st."

Per MP, no one was injured. Here's a look at the scene.

The overturned truck belongs to Baldor Specialty Foods...

An all-city collision on Avenue B

Oh, this happened this morning around 10ish ... as far as a sorta eyewitness could tell... a city sanitation car traveling east on Fourth Street may have hit a police car driving north on Avenue B. This is on the speculative side. However, photographic evidence suggests such a scenario.

Not sure who may be at fault here. The fellows on the scene weren't real chitty-chatty about what happened. Doesn't appear that anyone was seriously injured. An ambulance was on the scene.
