'Queers of Noise: Love Stinks' set for Valentine's night at the Bowery Electric

Katrina del Mar and Wendigo Productions have teamed up for “Queers of Noise: Love Stinks” Friday evening (Valentine's!) from 7:30 to 11 at the Bowery Electric.

Here are some details about the event via the EVG inbox (and find the Facebook Event Page at this link) ...

... this celebratory concert’s lineup features mostly female-fronted bands with trans, dyke, and straight allies, including Tracy City, Monte, Grace Bergere, DJ MzzzMullett and the Queers of Noise Supergroup fronted by very special guests Eileen Myles, Pamela Sneed, Cristy C Road, Reuben Butchart, Michael Love Michael and more.

Modern love can be complicated. For all the shallow screentime spent glazing your eyes bending your over _personals / Lex / grindr /tindr / her / okCupid it’s time to balance out, give your hard candy life a chance to crack open and gush. Join us for a live music night of punk, riot grrrl, radical queer poets and female-led rock bands!

The Bowery Electric is at 327 Bowery at Second Street (aka Joey Ramone Place). Tickets are $15 and available online here or at the door.

And Tracy City, featuring del Mar on vocals, has a new video out... feel the power retro pop of "Love"...

A new window display for Blue Door Video on Valentine's Day

Eden shares this photo of the new-look front window display at the XXX video and DVD store on First Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street... in recent years, the window display seemed to be a forgotten part of the store, with two cardboard ads for Swiss Navy personal lubricants and a corset-skirt combo that looked more like a lost and found.

Planning ahead for 2019 (and beyond?)

Goggla shares these photos from the Rite Aid on First Avenue at Fifth Street, noting: "In case anyone meets The One at the stroke of midnight tonight, Rite Aid is stocked for V-Day."

Valentine's night at Sunny's

Sunny's Florist, operated by Sun "Sunny" Ja Hwang and her son Edward, on Sixth Street at Second Avenue is arguably the best place to buy flowers in this or any neighborhood ... no surprise then that there is always a line on Valentine's Day or Mother's Day for quality bouquets that start at $10.

I love you to gigabits: Pop the question, see your names on a LinkNYC kiosk

There's something new for romantics at LinkNYC kiosks, often a symbol of free love in the city.

As this photo via EVG reader Daniel shows, the kiosks have a notice asking passersby if they are planning to pop the question. (Presumably in the form of a marriage proposal.)

If you do ask your partner for his/her hand in marriage between now and early February, your proposal will appear on LinkNYC kiosks. (So keep it clean!) Reach out to hello@link.nyc for more info.

On the LinkNYC topic, the city reported last week that more than 1.04 million users have logged into the kiosks citywide.

The kiosks, which provide free domestic calls, Wi-Fi service, USB charging ports, among other services — "have seen an average of 40,000 new sign-ups and 4 million Wi-Fi sessions per week, according to the city," as DNAinfo reported.

In the past year, more than 53o kiosks have been installed. The city plans to install 7,500 kiosks in total. The first one arrived late in December 2015 outside the Starbucks on Third Avenue and East 15th Street.
